What you get to do:
The Costume Technician is responsible for maintenance and/or construction of show costumes for current and/or new shows, special events, and costume characters. They are responsible to perform duties including, but not limited to, opening and/or closing duties, distribution of daily costumes, keeping track of supplies used/needed, daily laundry upkeep, daily costume repair, assisting performers to dress/undress performers, and viewing shows for costume quality assessment.
You’ll take on a variety of responsibilities in order help facilitate the Entertainment and Costume Department’s operations and shows. You will:
Maintain and build various costumes, overlays, props, and crafts
Sew both by hand and with a machine
Assist with craft and props maintenance with tools and equipment
Works with costuming and laundry supplies, equipment, and systems
Complete daily show costume repairs, as well as fittings and alterations as needed
Complete daily costumed character maintenance, disassemble and repair of control mechanisms, fur and feet repair (training provided)
Perform opening and closing duties, including, but not limited to, deployment, delivery & pick up of the daily show costuming, daily laundry duties, and daily tasks as needed
Work with the performers, tech crew and stage management to maintain safety and integrity of shows, surrounding workspaces venues and dressing rooms
Maintain cleanliness, safety, and quality standards through all assigned tasks
Maintains the quality assurance of the costuming product and supported areas. Including but not limited to the storage facility.
Participates in other duties as assigned that support park and departmental goals and objectives
What it takes to succeed:
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- 3 years working experience in clothing, laundry, wardrobe and costuming preferred.
- Theme park experience preferred.
- Experience with:
- Laundry supplies and equipment
- Costume and craft repairs
- Costume shop, craft and prop equipment
What else is important:
- Able to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
- Position engages in extensive walking and standing throughout entire work shift and climb/ascend heights, if needed
- Perform the following physical activities: kneeling, squatting, bend floor-to waist/waist-to-overhead, reach overhead, simple grasp and fine hand manipulation tasks (use of tools/keyboard/writing)
- Able to work indoors and outdoors, in varying weather, to include extreme heat. Position may be exposed to fumes, dust, odors, and cold/heat temperature extremes
- Perform cleaning duties, including use of cleaning chemicals
- Work a flexible schedule/hour based on business need, to include opening, mid-, and closing shifts; nights, weekends, and holidays
