The Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) WHS Compliance Assurance Manager North America will be responsible for strategic compliance assurance processes design, development, testing, implementation, verification and continual improvement. The role will need to engage, collaborate and partner with Amazon businesses, geographical units and technical subject matter experts (SMEs), in WHS and other functions i.e. WHS field operations, audits, governmental affairs, legal, engineering, data scientists, business intelligence engineers, purchasing, to continually reduce WHS legal and internal standards non-compliance risks. The role involves self-driven, independent and hands-on work in the areas of understanding stakeholder needs and expectations, WHS legal research, stakeholder engagement, data analysis, investigation and root cause analysis and WHS compliance risk management. Must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing.
Optimize for WHS compliance risk and reward to enhance customer experience. Benchmark against competitors by using competitive bench-marking to suggest novel opportunities or approaches for implementing controls to business partner. Research industry best practices. Balances customer experience and competitive alignment against risk management concerns when making recommendations or developing requirements for control. Identify new tech solutions and vendors and recommends opportunities to stakeholders for leveraging innovative technologies in the market in order to meet risk management need.
Key job responsibilities
Meet WHS related regulatory compliance and internal Amazon requirements. Partners with relevant stakeholders (legal, business and Geo unit representatives, etc.) to negotiate and define the obligations and compliance assurance programmatic WHS risk controls. Engages with internal teams to design WHS risk management program controls and verification mechanisms. Influences internal teams to implement controls to meet regulatory compliance and internal Amazon requirements. Identifies control deficiencies and engages with internal teams to measure impact, design and drive remediation.
Manage WHS compliance risk tolerances. Define, measure, analyze, improve and control program level risk based on established framework or risk tolerance. Communicates and defends compliance assurance program level risk to internal and external stakeholders. Recommend opportunities for risk mitigation based on established risk tolerance. Establish mechanisms to refresh risk measurement and inform re-calibration of risk tolerance. Identifies and suggests opportunities for improvement in risk assessment methodology.
Provide subject matter expertise to advise leadership on industry knowledge, emerging trends and potential impact on WHS compliance risk management roadmap. Build compliance risk management awareness in internal and external teams to be actively involved in roadmap discussions.
