Position Overview:
Southern Company is seeking a passionate and experienced data analyst to lead the development of metrics, dashboards, and related reporting for the Cybersecurity Team. This is a technical, hands-on role that requires the ability to extract, analyze, interpret and contextualize complex data to support business decisions impacted by cybersecurity risks. This role will leverage a combination of data transformation, statistics, programing skills, problem solving, and trend analysis to bridge the gap between raw data and actionable strategies. This role will also work with key stakeholders in the Cybersecurity Team to advise risk mitigation strategies based on analysis of incident response efficiency, infrastructure and application vulnerabilities, and cyber risk quantification.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Minimum 7 years of experience working in metrics reporting, business analytics, requirements analysis, forecasting or other related field.
- Solid understanding of Cybersecurity concepts is a plus, including awareness of relevant industry trends and standard processes in cybersecurity metrics and reporting.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions
- Knowledge of data modeling principles and experience with data transformation.
- Strong understanding of data analysis techniques, including statistical analysis and data mining.
- Ability to effectively communicate findings and work with various stakeholders, including technical, non-technical and executive-level audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret data and provide actionable insights.
- Understanding of business processes and how data analysis can drive business value.
- Proficiency in tools like SQL, Excel, PowerBI, Power Query, and programming languages like Python, Perl, Bash, PHP or R.
- Proactive and self-motivated approach to work, with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to effectively organize tasks, manage multiple priorities/details, meet schedules, and deliver on commitments.
- Experience driving discussions and consensus across a broad group of stakeholders and cross functional teams regarding strategies derived from data analysis.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience interacting with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization, from executive committee to individual contributors.
Job Responsibilities:
- Identify, acquire, and prepare data from various sources for analysis using tools.
- Leverage statistical techniques to analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and insights that can inform business decisions.
- Create data models to establish relationships between different data sets and ensure data accuracy.
- Ensure the data is accurate, reliable, and up-to-date.
- Design and develop interactive dashboards and reports, including custom visuals.
- Interpret and translate findings into understandable insights; develop and communicate findings to stakeholders through reports and presentations.
- Work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and other analysts to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.
- Collaborate across teams to identify key cybersecurity metrics, prioritization and establish standard reporting frameworks.
- Provide executive-level reporting and insights on the effectiveness of cybersecurity programs, controls, and risk management efforts.
- Continually evaluate and improve the cybersecurity dashboards and reporting processes based on feedback and evolving requirements.
- Stay updated on emerging trends and best practices in cybersecurity metrics and reporting.
- Collaborate with peers from across the organization and maintain excellent working relationships with key partners across Cybersecurity and the business.

Job Requirements :
- Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain US government security clearance.
- Required to submit to a thorough background examination.
- Ability to understand business requirements and present appropriate solutions.
- Ability to work independently or within a team.
- Demonstrated critical, independent thinking; demonstrated ability to conceive and present creative solutions
- Must pass NERC CIP & Insider Threat Protection background checks.
- Relevant certifications are highly desirable.
- Occasional travel to local and regional locations in pursuit of job duties and requirements.
This position falls under the company’s Insider Threat Program and will have access to, and control over sensitive data, systems or assets. Enhanced personnel screening, which includes a background review, drug screen and psychological assessment, will be required if you are selected for this position
