What’s the role?
Etsy’s Services Site Reliability Engineering team is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join us in our mission of building and supporting reliable large scale infrastructure and applications to power Search Infrastructure. The SRE team owns several aspects of business critical infrastructure and services that enable developers to efficiently build and deliver code as well as support the uptime of Etsy’s Search Infrastructure. As an SRE at Etsy, you’ll have the privilege of playing a support role for our developers to help them leverage the infrastructure we build and manage as well as assume ownership of a multitude of systems and ensure their reliability, scalability and maintainability.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager, Services SRE. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What’s this team like at Etsy?
The Services SRE team at Etsy builds and maintains the core services that help Etsy buyers and sellers discover and celebrate handmade goods from all over the world. We own and operate all system components powering Search at Etsy and aim to utilize aggressive automation to ensure our infrastructure scales independently of the size of the team.
What does the day-to-day look like?
Design, build, and support the core infrastructure of our Search platform, including on-call production support rotations.
Work cross-functionally with various platform teams, ML teams, and product partners to build the next generation of our high availability search platform in the cloud.
Build and maintain Buildkite pipelines to help deploy applications and codebases.
Build and maintain observability and test tooling - logging, monitoring, distributed tracing, alerting, and offline test tools needed for search.
Practice continuous learning and agile delivery model to stay informed and focused on our deliverables.
Support GKE services and maintenance that includes software upgrades, performance tuning and GKE cluster tuning and optimization.
Build GKE tooling for Search Platform’s test environment and automate deployments.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
You have solid engineering and coding skills, data structure knowledge and ability to write high performance production quality code.
You have experience working with languages like Java, Scala, Python, Go or other equivalent languages.
You are a strong collaborator and communicator and you make the engineers around you grow and learn.
You have fundamental experience with infrastructure engineering and strong troubleshooting skills.
You have solid background and hands-on experience with Cloud technologies either Google Cloud or AWS.
Experience that is nice to have:
Search technologies such as Vespa, Lucene/Solr, or Elasticsearch
Kubernetes and Docker
Automation and configuration management like Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible
Unix/Linux operating systems and networking stack (e.g., TCP/IP, routing, network topologies and hardware, SDN)
Observability tooling like Grafana, Kusto, Honeycomb
CI/CD tooling such as Argo, Buildkite, Bazel, Jenkins, GitHub Actions
