JOB SUMMARY
As the electric utility continues to evolve presenting multiple opportunities for the Company as it plans for its current and future generation fleet, GPC Resource Planning as part of SCS System Planning is at the forefront of these efforts. During this exciting time in the industry, the department is engaged along many fronts to help shape the expansion of the generation and transmission system as we continue to deliver clean, safe, reliable, and affordable power to our customers in a time of exciting and never before seen load growth and economic development.
The department’s engagement occurs through many areas including:
- lead the development of the Integrated Resource Plan for GPC and leading the regulatory process for IRP filings
- supporting the addition of generation resources through RFPs and Company-owned projects including leading the regulatory process for certification of such resources
- coordinating with APC and MPC and supporting system initiatives through System Planning
- coordination of the system expansion while partnering with Generation, Power Delivery, Environmental Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, AFT, and many others.
- working across multiple organizations in the evaluation of proposed energy policies, incorporating Company strategic initiatives and developing innovative programs and services for customers, all while ensuring reliable service.
This position serves as the Georgia Power project manager over one or more of the following:
- support of Company-owned generation development
- support of procurement of long-term purchased power from independent power producers
- support of hydro modernization efforts
- support of Transmission Planning
- support of the Company’s Integrated Resource Plan
- planning-related support for renewable energy resources, avoided cost filings, planning-related legislative and regulatory policy support
- direct support for the VP of Resource Planning and the Director of GPC Resource Planning
The position works with large and diverse teams from across departments within GPC and SCS to accomplish objectives and is part of the System Planning Organization. This position will also work with Public Service Commission Staff periodically.
The Resource Policy & Planning team currently has a hybrid work schedule including plans to be in the office on average of four days a week. We do incorporate flexibility, but also the job could require more than four days in the office in a week if necessary.
This position is located in Atlanta, Georgia. Partial relocation assistance may be available.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelors degree is required.
- Undergraduate degree in engineering, business, finance, or economics highly preferred.
- Advanced degree(s) desirable.
Experience:
- Desired experience in the areas of economic evaluations, state regulatory process, negotiation and management of power purchase agreements, transmission planning, analysis and policy, generation planning and analysis, generation development, planning and operations of renewable generation, project management, environmental affairs and the application of PURPA and related state requirements as applicable to GPC.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Desired areas of knowledge include marginal cost concepts, economic dispatch, the Integrated Resource Planning process, generation and transmission planning processes, generation technologies and operation, transmission interconnection and service policies, energy related federal and state legislation and regulation, renewable technologies and interconnection, financial analysis, typical power purchase agreement terms and conditions.
- Position requires strong skills in the areas of project management, negotiations, analysis, and strategic thinking.
