POSITION SUMMARY
Georgia is experiencing significant economic growth, and as a member of Southern Company Services (SCS) System Planning, the Georgia Power (GPC) Resource Planning team is ready to rise to the challenge. In your capacity as a project analyst, you will play a key role in helping to determine how we respond to the state’s increasing demand for electric resources in the coming years.
During this exciting time in the utility industry, the department is engaged on many fronts to help shape the expansion of the generation and transmission system as we continue to deliver clean, safe, reliable, and affordable power to our customers.
The position works with large and diverse teams from across departments within GPC and SCS to accomplish its objectives and is a part of System Planning, affording the successful candidate many opportunities to learn about analysis, topics, and issues that are fundamental to the business.
The department’s engagement occurs through:
- Leading the development of the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) for GPC and leading the regulatory process for IRP filings
- Supporting the addition of generation resources through Request for Proposals (RFPs) and Company-owned projects including leading the regulatory process for certification of such resources
- Coordinating with Alabama Power and Mississippi Power and supporting system initiatives through System Planning
- Coordination of the system expansion while partnering with Generation, Power Delivery, Environmental Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Accounting, Finance and Treasury, and many others.
- Working across multiple organizations in the evaluation of proposed energy policies, incorporating Company strategic initiatives and developing innovative programs and services for customers, all while ensuring reliable service.
This position serves as an analyst supporting one or more of the following:
- Development and implementation of the Company's Integrated Resource Plan
- Support for procurement of long-term purchased power from independent power producers
- Involvement with Company-owned generation development, avoided cost filings, resource certification filings with the Public Service Commission
- Electric utility planning-related legislative and regulatory policy support, planning oversight of Georgia Power’s wholesale assets, and other resource planning projects
- Specified aspects of drafting and preparation of regulatory filings and associated data requests, development of PowerPoint presentations, performing secondary research, spreadsheet analysis, management of assigned project activities and coordination with other departments regarding project activities.
The Resource Planning team currently has a hybrid work schedule including plans to be in the office on average four days a week. We do incorporate flexibility, but also the job could require more than four days in the office in a week if necessary.
This position is preferably located in Atlanta, Georgia but other Company locations will be considered. Partial relocation benefits are available.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- BS, BA, or BBA in Economics, Business, Finance or Engineering would be desired.
- MBA or other advanced degree(s) a plus.
Experience:
