Annual Reviews (AR) is a nonprofit publisher dedicated to synthesizing and integrating knowledge for the progress of science and the benefit of society. Our work spans journals that review scientific progress, a science magazine for general audiences, a publication for librarians, a major conference and a service to make academic books free to all. We are seeking a Digital Marketing Specialist to support a range of Annual Reviews products. The primary responsibility is to create, schedule, and manage marketing content across multiple social media channels to engage both expert audiences and the wider public. The ideal candidate will have a background or deep interest in science and/or scholarly communications and will have previously worked in digital media.

Specific responsibilities will include:
- Building audiences across the Annual Reviews portfolio by developing tailored strategies for each product.
- Managing scheduling, and monitoring posts across platforms, including LinkedIn, Bluesky, Facebook and Instagram.
- Co-managing the social media calendar.
- Writing engaging copy for social media and collaborating with the graphic design team to create branded visual and other assets.
- Editing and repurposing video clips from events and longer content.
- Executing and tracking paid social media campaigns.
- Monitoring engagement, ROI, and performance metrics for live online events.
- Analyzing data to identify best practices and preparing monthly performance reports.
- Conducting keyword research and supporting SEO initiatives.
- Assisting with weekly email newsletters and other email campaigns.
- Supporting a program to republish magazine content through partner publications worldwide.
- Updating marketing material on the Annual Reviews website.
- Performing additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
Storytelling & Communication
- Strong storytelling skills using text, color, typography, layout, and infographics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to different editorial styles and brand voices.
- Commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.
Social Media Expertise
- Understanding of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
- Experience in writing engaging posts aligned with brand messaging.
- Knowledge of SEO, hashtags, and metadata for post optimization.
- Experience with paid campaigns and budgeting for promoted ads.
Project & Time Management
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to manage content calendars and meet deadlines.
- Proactive problem-solving and ability to work independently.
- Skilled at balancing multiple assignments.
Teamwork & Collaboration
- Positive attitude and ability to work well in teams.
- Open to giving and receiving constructive feedback.
- Strong interpersonal communication and willingness to take initiative.
- Comfortable working with diverse teams and fostering an inclusive culture.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency with:
- MS Office 365 and MS Excel.
- Scheduling software such as Buffer or similar tools.
- Social Media platforms such as LinkedIn, BlueSky, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.
- Design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva, and with basic video, audio and image editing.
- Working knowledge of email marketing tools such as MailChimp or Constant Contact.
- Basic HTML skills and experience with WordPress or comparable CMS platforms.
- Experience or interest in using project management tools such as Airtable.
- Video editing experience is a plus.
Preferred
- An interest in or experience using generative AI tools to create accessible derivative products from original content, such as podcasts, summaries, translations or videos.
- Knowledge of the library, publishing, and scholarly communications landscape.
- Experience managing social media in editorial or journalistic settings.

Annual Reviews offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits. Pay Scale: Following is the salary range that Annual Reviews expects to pay for this position: $52,500 - $80,000/year. Please note, however, that actual compensation will be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, specific home office location, and level of experience and skills.
