Drafter (CAD Technician)

Job Summary: This position resides within the Geographic Solutions and Services organizations and is responsible for providing GIS/drafting services, map products, overlays, and data extraction in support of Distribution Centralized Engineering Services (CES) projects. These projects primarily support the relocation and redesign of Georgia Power facilities due to DOT project conflicts. This position requires advanced drafting skills (primarily MicroStation), along with the ability to create, edit, and extract GIS data. The Drafter (ArcGIS) CAD Technician will ensure projects are completed accurately and within required deadlines.
Education requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Associate degree or Certificate in CAD, or related field
(MicroStation)
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience CAD drafting (ArcGIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation) and geospatial tools
- Working knowledge of Bentley’s MicroStation software
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated experience as a CAD drafter or in a similar role, preferably in the energy or utility sector
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and revise engineering drawings and plans
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and field notes.
- Ability to read, interpret, and update engineering drawings
- Maintain organized documentation and drawing files.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to MicroStation.
- Post updates to the DistGIS database
- Work within a flexible, fast-changing team environment ensuring customer needs are met
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency in the following software: AutoCAD MAP3D 2014 or above MicroStation V8i and MicroStation Connect (Microsoft Office products, etc.)
- Strong organizational and documentation skills, with attention to technical accuracy.
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) systems is a plus
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and communication skills.
