The Senior Manager of Federal Government Relations will support Share Our Strength and its mission to end childhood hunger and poverty in America by advancing its federal advocacy and government relations efforts. The Senior Manager will partner with the Government Relations and Advocacy Team in the development and execution of a coordinated federal government relations strategy that advances our organizational policy priorities. The Senior Manager will collaborate with contract lobbyists, external partners and stakeholders, as well as colleagues across Share Our Strength, to build and strengthen our federal government relations strategies and tactics, tracking progress and course correcting as needed to meet goals. The Senior Manager will also represent Share Our Strength in coalitions and in meetings with federal policy makers.
This position is based in Washington, D.C. This position will require the candidate to be local to the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. The position offers a salary range of $87k-$90k. Exact compensation within the stated salary range may vary based on skills, experience, and internal equity.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute on federal government relations strategies and policy goals. Proactively identify challenges to or opportunities for organizational policy goals and lead cross-team efforts to adjust federal government relations strategies accordingly.
- Expand our reach and engagement with Congressional Caucus’ and offices and the Administration to increase their knowledge of child nutrition programs and economic support programs and advocate for policies to end childhood hunger.
- Maintain strong and effective relationships with partner organizations, Congress, and the Administration, including managing difficult conversations.
- Create materials and provide background research for federal legislative activities, including briefings, hearings, and training webinars for advocate networks. Draft testimony, hearing questions, letters of support, meeting requests, and other documents relevant to our federal government relations efforts.
- Communicate progress, provide strategic counsel, and facilitate shared understanding of government relations metrics, strategies, tactics, and impact among external and internal stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Represent Share Our Strength to external audiences, including through presentations at coalition meetings, community events, meetings with policymakers and similar forums.
- Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensuring this value is embedded in the organization and throughout our work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred but not required.
- 5-8 years of experience in issue advocacy or campaigns, as legislative staff, or with a governmental agency.
- MS Office proficiency.
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills, including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on multi-step, detail-oriented projects in a fluid environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including policy research and persuasive writing skills.
- Interest in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
