The Advocacy Manager designs and executes strategies to grow, engage, and mobilize our base of grassroots advocate in support of organizational priorities at the federal, state, and local levels. This person owns all grassroots constituent-facing digital and community advocacy efforts.
This position is preferably based in Washington, DC; but could be fully remote for the right candidate living outside of the D.C. area. The position offers a salary range of $60k-$65k. Exact compensation within the stated salary range may vary based on skills, experience, internal equity, and geographical location.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build and launch digital grassroots advocacy campaigns (email, text, action pages) around legislative moments, in close coordination with Communications, Fundraising, and other departments.
- Partner with Communications on organic and paid strategies that support grassroots advocacy engagement.
- Through partnership with State Campaigns, leverage relationships with local grassroot advocates, including parents, educators, and other frontline community voices.
- Draft advocacy alerts and other copy that activates grassroots supporters/
- Create shareable resources like one-pagers and toolkits to leverage and engage grassroots advocates.
- Track actions taken, growth of grassroots advocates base, and campaign conversion rates; report results to the team.
- Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensuring this value is embedded in the organization and throughout our work.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred but not required.
- 3-5 years of experience in successfully managing advocacy and/or community engagement programs.
- MS Office proficiency and grassroots engagement tools and software experience highly preferred.
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills, including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on multi-step, detail-oriented projects in a fluid environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience presenting to high-level audiences.
- Interest in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
