Job Summary
Measuring and Test Equipment (M&TE) is owned by all power generation plants (nuclear and non-nuclear), transmission maintenance centers, operating headquarters, as well as many other departments throughout the Southern Company. This certified equipment is used to monitor and maintain voltage, temperature, pressure, and many other critical measurement areas to specified tolerances.
The person in this position is responsible for supervising all activities at the Georgia Power Juliette Metrology Lab (JML) which performs calibration and certification activities for all company owned M&TE. This also includes overall compliance, implementation, and administration of the JML nuclear certified QA manual and procedures.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Educational Requirements:
- Technical degree and/or experience are mandatory. Formal training in calibration / metrology and engineering is highly desirable. Strong computer skills are a must.
- Engineering degree a plus
- Military metrology training a plus
Job Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
- Experience in technical roles (e.g., engineering, lead technician, specialist, etc.) is highly desirable
- Experience with developing and delivering training preferred
- 10 CFR 50, Appendix B and 10 CFR 21 knowledge a plus
- Knowledge of a calibration lab and metrology terms
- Development and maintenance of area procedures
- Effective verbal and writing skills
- Strong leadership skills that build credibility and trust quickly
- Ability to work with people to achieve organizational objectives
- Must be able to support 24/7 operation including holidays, nights, and weekends when necessary
- Proficient in relevant computer applications / Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
- Ability to make decisions and demonstrate short/long-term strategic vision for JML

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership, performance management, and work direction for the Juliette Metrology Lab
- Foster an environment of teamwork, self-motivation, open communication, and superior customer service
- Serve as a strong leader and demonstrate technical expertise in all areas at JML including electrical, temperature, pressure, dimensional, flow, torque, force, and vibration
- Oversee project management of all new JML equipment purchases and installations from conception to completion to ensure all expected cost and productivity goals are met or exceeded
- Assign and document all technician training on how to operate new equipment and ensure they have specific training to complete their jobs
- Manage the JML capital budget and make the necessary purchases that provide the best value to the customers
- Talk or meet with customers on a regular basis to resolve issues and develop strong work relationships
- Track all production numbers and provide process improvements and efficiency
- Oversee approval of technical procedures on equipment to ensure all procedures meet the needs of the JML QA program
- Assist with technical evaluations of Nonconformance Reports for the nuclear QA program
- Lead the research of new capabilities to support customer needs while increasing lab capabilities
