Brief Job Overview/Summary
Stockton University in Galloway, New Jersey seeks applications for a full-time Tenure Track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Mathematics and First-Year Studies, starting September 1, 2026. The successful candidate will join core faculty housed in the School of General Studies in teaching first-year mathematics courses as part of an innovative, University-wide First-Year Studies program.
Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Dean of General Studies, the responsibilities for Assistant Professor of Mathematics and First Year Studies include:
- Teaching (3-3 load) 4-credit courses and seminars in FRST mathematics such as mathematical thinking, quantitative reasoning, or algebraic problem solving
- Teaching other courses in the interdisciplinary General Studies curriculum. See information and a short video regarding General Studies at http://intraweb.stockton.edu/eyos/page.cfm?siteID=18&pageID=1
- Serving as a preceptor (advisor) to students, as assigned
- Engaging in ongoing scholarship/creative work
- Providing service to the University, community and profession
- Performing other duties as may be assigned by the Dean of General Studies and/or the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and a strong student-centered vision and mission
Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree (PhD, EdD) required. ABD candidates will be considered with completion expected within one year of start date; such candidates will be hired as instructors until terminal degree completion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching college-level mathematics courses in quantitative reasoning with an emphasis on real-world applications
- Experience teaching mathematics to first-year college students or the equivalent, such as AP high school or dual-credit courses
- Experience working with diverse populations and/or interest in anti-racist/social justice-oriented pedagogy
