Maintenance Specialist- Plant Miller (Contract Maintenance Department)
Job Summary
This position provides support to the Contract Maintenance Department at Plant Miller. Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to Daily Contract Maintenance Planning & Coordinating. Support all established metrics, outage planning and project planning for all units. Maintenance Strategy consists of Job Plan Development, P.M Administration, Department Processes, along with Procedure Development.
Job Requirements
- Significant plant maintenance and operations experience, 5 years minimum in maintenance and/or planning.
- Knowledge of generating plant technology, maintenance, and operations related to major outage and routine activities.
- Strong organizational, administrative, facilitation, and interpersonal skills are required.
- Knowledge and experience with personal computers and the ability to learn quickly numerous software applications for work order management, planning/scheduling, and budget process are a necessity. Experience or knowledge within Maximo is required.
- Knowledge of contract administration is required.
- Ability to interface with vendors and contractors while representing the best interests of Southern Company.
- Some travel within Generation fleet.
- Good verbal and written communications skills are required.
- Support of Planned Outages, Maintenance Outage and Forced Outages with the possibility of night shift, weekends and Holidays as needed
Job Responsibilities
- Incorporate safety in operations and maintenance planning for all work activities.
- Work with LOTO coordinators to ensure all equipment is properly tagged and matches Maximo equipment descriptions.
- Administer the work order management system through Maximo by processing prioritized work orders, updating equipment records, and maintaining equipment historical database, including bill of materials, etc.
- Develop and implement a Maximo planning process to include producing work packages for contract maintenance crew to execute.
- Develop, update and maintain contract maintenance procedures.
- Work with contractor leadership to enhance work productivity by creating and maintaining detailed job plans, coordinating material procurement and staging while maintaining effective communications between all work groups.
- Develop outage work packages and plans for Planned, Forced and Maintenance outages for maintenance personnel, including external contractors as required.
- Provide coordination and oversite for contract labor needs (i.e. equipment rebuilds and parts refurbishment), seeking out and recommending the most cost-effective solutions.
- Actively support Maintenance Strategy program, including incorporation of fleet level job plans and comprehensive work packages for Preventative Maintenance.
- Optimize and organize spare parts, material and equipment stocking levels and inventories; also managing obsolete inventory.
- Work with Maintenance Specialist within department to maintain consistency in maintenance procedures, Maximo implementation, outage planning, etc.
- Support training on procedures and processes.

- Ability to build and sustain relationships; strong interpersonal skills capable of interacting with various team members (supervision, contractors, vendors, management, and staff peers).
- Ability to apply sound judgment to personnel and technical issues; effectively handle crisis situations.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to learn quickly.
- Self-motivation and demonstrated initiative are crucial for this position.
- Strong organizational, administrative, facilitation, and interpersonal skills are required.
- Must participate in the Contractor Support on-call process.
