JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to lead and supervise field personnel responsible for all installation and
maintenance activities associated with field instrumentation, real-time data communication, and SCADA
controls to ensure optimum system operation and reliability. Ensures all compliance and regulatory activities
are completed and documented as required. Responsible for the daily performance monitoring and oversight
of job functions performed by field staff ensuring field instrumentation, real-time controls and SCADA
equipment are properly maintained, repaired, and calibrated to Company standards and regulatory guidelines.
Additional duties include overseeing the maintenance of electronic controls and equipment associated with
odorizers, electronic chart recorders, pipeline heaters, chromatographs, transmitters, cellular modems and
RTUs. Ensures resources for quick response to system outages are readily available. Daily travel within the Nicor Gas Territory.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Certifications/Licenses:
Required:
o BA/BS degree
Or
o 5+ years equivalent LDC operations experience working in a SCADA/Controls department
o Intermediate MS Excel and MS Word

o Demonstrated experience supervising employees

o Experience working with data communication protocols i.e. WPLS, modems, land-lines, Modbus, IP, etc.
o Experience in SCADA field controls design, installation and maintenance
o Experience working with Fisher ROC or Bristol RTU/PLC
Specific Skills & Knowledge:
Required:
o Radio/RF, TCIP addressing, or SCADA addressing
o As-building for pre and post design documentation
o Basic electrical distribution (12Volt, 24 Volt, 110 Volt)
o Electronic Controls Design ( 4 – 20 ma, 1 – 5 volts)
o Reading and understanding electrical line diagrams and wiring schematics
o Demonstrated ability in the calibration and testing of instrumentation and SCADA control equipment using
test equipment
o Demonstrated ability in the installation and startup of new SCADA/control sites

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Functional Expertise:
• Understands all regulatory requirements and Company standards to ensure delivery of
SCADA data from field devices to the real-time control systems
• Oversees the configuration and startup of field RTUs
• Oversees and manages the installation and startup of new SCADA stations as well as
implements, schedules and oversees instrumentation and SCADA field projects. Closely
works with RTSS for scheduling SCADA host additions/revisions to meet timeline
requirements for station commissioning.
• Understands PHMSA Control Room Management requirements associated with field SCADA
and ensures full compliance within department
• Investigates and resolves communication issues concerning radios, cellular modems and
RTUs
• Oversees and manages the troubleshooting and repair of field instrumentation equipment
associated with odorizers, pipeline heaters, chromatographs, electronic chart recorders, etc.
Business Acumen:
• Organizes and communicates daily work assignments to SCADA personnel
• Maintains necessary inventory for operation and maintenance of field SCADA equipment
• Monitors and directs compliance related tasks to ensure requirements are met
• Meets or exceeds all financial, performance, and regulatory metrics

• Responsible for monitoring monthly and annual capital and operating expense budgets and
implementing cost control for the department
