JOB SUMMARY
The Buyer position is responsible for sourcing and procurement activities supporting Technical Shared Services projects and the generating facilities within the Alabama Power Barry Cluster. Duties include locating sources of supply, issuing requests for quotes, analyzing bids, negotiating, creating purchase orders (inventory, non-stock materials, and services), expediting, resolving supplier problems, and other supply chain duties as required. The Buyer spends considerable time and effort communicating and engaging with their business unit partners while performing the duties listed above.

- Purchasing and supply chain practices and standards
- Technical Shared Services’ project processes
- Business practices such as budgeting, traffic/logistics, contracts, engineering, risk management, accounting and legal
- Generation, power delivery or similar industries
- Maximo Purchasing system
- Business programs such as Word and Excel
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business, finance, engineering – preferred
- Supply chain or legal certifications are a plus
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Active engagement with suppliers, business unit partners, and teammates
- Cradle-to-grave ownership of sourcing and procurement processes
- Tracking and communicating the status of purchase requisitions
- Evaluation of proposals for materials and services to determine best value
- Issuance of orders for purchase of goods and services
- Resolution of conflicts or discrepancies involving contracts, specifications, pricing, and invoices
