The Manager II Learning & Development leads the strategy, design, and execution of learning initiatives across ADUSA Distribution & Transportation. This role is responsible for developing and implementing scalable learning programs that strengthen leadership capability, technical expertise, operational effectiveness, and compliance across a complex, multi-site supply chain network.
This position translates enterprise and operational priorities into actionable learning solutions that drive measurable performance outcomes. The role leads a team of Learning & Development Specialists and distribution center training professionals, ensuring consistent, high-quality program design and delivery across all sites.
Operating with broad latitude within established corporate strategy, this leader balances strategic planning with operational execution, portfolio prioritization, team leadership, and budget accountability.
Primary Duties
Learning Strategy & Business Alignment
• Develop and execute a multi-year learning roadmap aligned with business objectives, workforce planning, and operational priorities.
• Partner with Operations Leadership and HR Business Partners to assess capability gaps and define targeted development solutions.
• Translate enterprise talent strategies into scalable learning programs across distribution and transportation functions.
• Prioritize learning initiatives based on business impact, risk, and resource capacity.
Leadership & Capability Development
• Design and oversee structured development pathways for frontline leaders, managers, and emerging talent.
• Implement leadership development programs that strengthen supervisory effectiveness, accountability, and team performance.
• Support succession planning efforts through targeted development solutions.
Talent Program Management
• Provides strategic leadership for ADUSA Distribution & Transportation's enterprise talent programs, overseeing program design, execution, measurement, and continuous improvement across early-career pipelines, leadership development, and professional growth pathways.
• Ensures business adoption of Early Talent programs (i.e.. Internship and Emerging Leader Programs) to provide on-the-job experience for future leaders and deliver new talent pipelines to the business and strengthen leadership bench strength to support long-term succession planning.
• Manages External Partnerships and tuition reimbursement programs, evaluating vendors, universities, and optimizing learning investment, and ensuring associates have equitable access to career-advancing education and skills development.
Technical, Operational & Compliance Training
• Oversee development and deployment of technical, systems, safety, and compliance training programs.
• Ensure training content aligns with evolving automation, operational processes, and regulatory standards.
• Establish governance for training materials, job aids, and standard operating procedure documentation to ensure consistency and audit readiness.
• Support distribution center trainers with tools, standards, and best practices to drive safe, high-quality operations.
Instructional Design & Learning Innovation
• Establish standards for instructional design, curriculum development, and program evaluation.
• Lead development of blended learning solutions including instructor-led, virtual, digital, experiential, and on-demand formats.
• Ensure programs leverage adult learning principles (ADDIE, Design Thinking, Bloom's Taxonomy) and measurable evaluation models (Kirkpatrick).
• Evaluate and implement appropriate learning technologies and digital tools to increase scalability and effectiveness.
Portfolio Governance & Program Execution
• Manage the learning intake and prioritization process across the business.
• Lead large-scale, cross-functional learning projects with accountability for scope, timeline, quality, and outcomes.
• Oversee train-the-trainer processes, communication plans, deployment logistics, and change enablement efforts.
• Monitor and adjust programs based on stakeholder feedback and operational data.
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
• Define key performance indicators to measure learning effectiveness, adoption, and operational impact.
• Leverage LMS reporting, engagement data, operational metrics, and survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey) to drive program enhancements.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and auditing standards.
Vendor & Resource Management
• Manage relationships with external learning vendors and content providers (e.g., Franklin Covey, LinkedIn Learning).
• Negotiate scopes of work and monitor deliverables to ensure quality and cost effectiveness.
• Develop and manage the L&D budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment to strategic priorities.
Team Leadership
• Lead and develop a team of Learning & Development Specialists and training professionals.
• Provide coaching and direction in instructional design, facilitation, analytics, and stakeholder management.
• Conduct workforce planning to align team capacity with portfolio demand.
• Establish performance expectations and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, Business, or related field required
• Master's degree (MBA, MSHR) preferred
Experience:
• 8-12 years of progressive experience in Learning & Development, Organizational Development, or Talent Development within a complex operational or supply chain environment.
• Experience leading learning strategy within a complex, multi-site operational or supply chain environment.
• Demonstrated experience managing professional-level direct reports.
• Proven success delivering leadership, technical, and functional learning programs with measurable business impact.
• Experience managing cross-functional initiatives with budget and timeline accountability.
Certifications (preferred):
• SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP
• Prosci (Change Management)
• PMP or equivalent program/portfolio management certification
Other
• Travel required (approximately 20-30%) to distribution centers and corporate locations.
• Ability to work in distribution center and corporate office environments as needed.
• Operates within broad corporate policies, professional standards, and strategic direction with authority to determine learning priorities; major strategy shifts subject to executive approval.
