Company Description
Etsy is the global marketplace for unique and creative goods. We build, power, and evolve the tools and technologies that connect millions of entrepreneurs with millions of buyers around the world. As an Etsy Inc. employee, whether a team member of Etsy or Depop, you will tackle unique, meaningful, and large-scale problems alongside passionate coworkers, all the while making a rewarding impact and Keeping Commerce Human.
Salary Range:
$157,000.00 - $203,000.00
What's the role?
Etsy's marketplace has over 100 million listings from sellers around the world. Search is how most buyers navigate that breadth. Search shapes whether a buyer finds what they came for, discovers something they didn't expect, and comes back to Etsy again.
We're looking for a Senior Product Manager to own the buyer-facing search experience on Etsy's iOS app. You'll lead a squad responsible for how buyers search, browse results, refine their intent, and move from a query to a confident purchase decision — across the full range of searches, from specific ("14k gold hoop earrings") to exploratory ("gift for mom," "living room decor").
This is a role at the intersection of product craft and technical partnership. Search is undergoing a meaningful capability shift: LLM-powered understanding, embedding-based retrieval, and new ranking approaches are making it possible for Etsy search to go beyond keywords. You'll work closely with ML and engineering partners to figure out which of these new capabilities actually change buyer behavior, and shape the product experiences that bring them to life.
Your work will center on three connected challenges:
Helping buyers navigate Etsy's breadth. Etsy's inventory spans hundreds of categories, and a single query can surface everything from handmade ceramics to vintage furniture to custom jewelry. You'll define how results are organized, grouped, and presented to help buyers explore possibilities.
Making search a tool for discovery. Many buyers know roughly what they want but not exactly. You'll design experiences that help them refine, compare, and explore adjacent options.
Connecting search to the broader buyer experience. Search doesn't exist in isolation. You'll partner closely with the Home and Listing teams to ensure the search experience contributes to a cohesive buyer journey across the app.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Product, iOS. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy's Brooklyn Office Hub may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Etsy offers different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team. Learn more details about our work modes and workplace safety policies here.
What does the day-to-day look like?
Own the product strategy for search experience on iOS — defining which buyer problems to solve, in what order, and why.
Partner with ML engineers to translate new search capabilities (LLMs, embedding retrieval, semantic understanding) into product experiences that change how buyers find and discover things on Etsy.
Design and run experiments that test how changes to result presentation, navigation, and refinement affect buyer engagement, conversion, and long-term retention.
Analyze search behavior data to identify the biggest gaps between what buyers are looking for and what the search experience delivers.
Collaborate with teams across the buyer experience to ensure search connects to a cohesive end-to-end journey — from landing on the app to finding the right item.
Set clear goals and a learning agenda for the squad, framing work as hypotheses to validate rather than features to ship.
Communicate strategy and results to leadership, including what you've learned, what you've killed, and what you're scaling.
Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
5–7 years of experience in consumer product management, with a track record of owning product strategy and delivering measurable outcomes on a core product surface.
Experience working with search, discovery, recommendations, or retrieval. You understand the interplay between query understanding, ranking, and result presentation.
Comfort partnering with ML and engineering teams on technically complex products. You don't need to write models, but you need to understand what they can and can't do, and translate capability into product direction.
Strong experimentation instincts. You design experiments that test mechanisms, not just features, and you use data to make real decisions (including killing things that don't work).
Clear, structured communication. You can explain a nuanced technical trade-off to a designer and a buyer behavior insight to an ML engineer with equal clarity.
Experience in e-commerce, marketplace, or two-sided platform products is a plus.
Genuine curiosity about how people find things and make decisions. You think about information architecture, cognitive load, and user intent as naturally as you think about metrics.
