What You’ll Work On
As the Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM) Lead at the Sturgis Manufacturing Facility, you'll have the opportunity to apply scientific knowledge, engineering knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity related to maintenance excellence and reliability of a new production line. This position is involved in the overall lifecycle of capital assets (designing, delivering, operating, maintaining, and decommissioning) in the most productive and cost-effective manner. Additional responsibilities include:
- Coordinate and monitor activities within the Maintenance Excellence program
- Estimate and coordinate resources needed (materials, budget, time, and people) to accomplish assigned tasks
- Participate in economic analysis and feasibility studies. Jointly responsible for achieving financial targets in support of business objectives
- Gather maintenance and manufacturing performance data (Maximo, Zarpac, etc.), and perform preliminary analysis, report findings, and prepare recommended action plans to drive cost containment and cost reduction efforts
- Anticipate future directions, benchmark internally and externally, and assist with deployment of predictive and reliability centered maintenance strategies
- Provide centralized, strategic look across equipment performance (downtime), material/component failure analysis, and changeovers
- Predict patterns/trends, grasp complexities and see relationships among data; determine consequences and alternatives; make recommendations; analyze problems from multiple perspectives
- Facilitate root cause analysis for equipment downtime
- Develop and execute reliability studies and evaluations of equipment robustness
- Mentor and train others by sharing information and providing feedback
- Prepare written communication, convey information effectively through formal and informal documents with team members, designers, technicians, and other technical personnel internal and external to Abbott.

- Predictive Maintenance (Vibration Analysis, Infrared Thermography, Ultrasonic Leak Detection, Oil Analysis, etc.)
- Maintenance and Rebuild Programs (Valve rebuilds, Safety Relief Valves, Gearmotors & Gearboxes, Vessel Inspections, Switchgear and MCC Maintenance, etc.)
Other
- Responsible for planning and conducting small-sized assigned projects requiring conventional types of plans, investigations and / or equipment.
- Participate and / or assist other engineers in project tasks by applying standard engineering theories, concepts and techniques.
- Apply standard engineering principles and methodologies to interpret problems, create/modify designs, draw conclusions, and recommend options for solutions.
- Responsible for completing documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with business standards.
- Participate on cross-functional teams to support organizational goals.
- Understand and comply with applicable EHS policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
- Works under the supervision of more experienced engineers who review results for overall accuracy, completeness and soundness of technical judgment
- Recognizes risks versus the relative gains associated with actions
- Understands a project's critical success factors and makes recommendations and decisions impacting those factors
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Reliability Engineering) or equivalent technical experience and demonstrated competence required
- 2+ years in reliability, maintenance, or quality and/or operational experience
- Experience with industrial and mechanical engineering principles, data analysis, process improvement techniques, and problem-solving
- Technical knowledge of maintenance programs
- Software proficiency in Maximo CMMS, Excel
- Analytical and Technical Skills:
- Root Cause Analysis (5 Why’s, Fishbone Diagram, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis)
- Statistical Analysis (Reliability modeling, life data analysis, MTBF/MTTR calculations)
- Predictive Maintenance Techniques (Vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, ultrasonic testing)
- Ability to work independently and in groups; ability to work cross-functionally
- Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills: critical-thinking skills
- Ability or aptitude to use various types of databases and other computer software
- Ability or aptitude to provide solutions and contingency plans through the comprehensive review of alternatives
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interface with production operators, technical liaisons, and cross-functional teams at site and globally with all Abbott Nutrition sites
- Strong leadership skills required. Interacts well with diverse groups within the operation and maintains strong working relationships with internal in a collaborative, fast-paced, goal-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
- CRE, CMRP, and/or Six Sigma certifications
- Familiarity with "reliability centered maintenance"
- Project management experience
- Work experience in the food /medical industry under FDA regulation
