The Sr. Hardware Quality Engineering Manager (QEM) is responsible for ensuring that our products are designed for quality and continue to meet our customers’ high expectations during the life of the product. They will focus on product quality deliverables during our product launch and sustaining.
The successful candidate will establish quality goals and monitor performance, investigate with the full suite of failure analysis tools, influencing root cause and subsequent closed loop corrective action. Lead quality lessons learned and institute remedies to prevent re-occurrence of quality issues while possessing a high sense of urgency when managing critical issues.
Their responsibility will require knowledge across a broad scope of quality, from product design, manufacturing, factory process controls to customer service complaint handling.
Key job responsibilities
Sr. Quality Engineering Manager will be responsible for identifying risks and working with the appropriate product development and sustaining engineering functions to ensure the critical and high risk items are resolved prior to shipping a product and moreover don’t make it into next generation product.
In addition to the work done in the New Product Introduction (NPI) & Sustaining phases, the Sr. QEM will drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the job, be able to deal with ambiguity, and influence at all levels of the company.
A day in the life
- Understand the technology and functionality of Consumer Hardware products, and be able to assess the risk to a negative customer experience, so that it can be prevented during development
- Analyze build data to establish specific product quality issue(s) and drive a closed loop corrective action within the organization
- Experience with data analytics, statistics, advanced quality methods and protocol
- Guide cross-functional teams in Design for Quality initiatives
- Utilize comprehensive knowledge of standards, related disciplines, company strategy and goals, to ensure a positive customer experience
- Deliver solutions to complex problems through in-depth data analysis and forensics by using methodical approaches, along with experience, innovation and judgment to make choices that may be based on partial information
- Understand detailed implications of decisions and recommendations and be able to communicate recommended solutions to the product development team, all the way up to the executive team.
- Align cross-functionally, influencing a broad spectrum of stakeholders to deliver on the quality policy.
- Create standards around which others will operate and build consensus.
- Establish specific quality related functional milestones during New Product Introduction (NPI) & Sustaining.
- Up to 30% of domestic and international travel is required.
