Across state and local government, the software that powers everyday public services is being rebuilt around generative AI and agentic systems. AWS is hiring a Senior Solutions Architect (SA) to help Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) reimagine their products on AWS.
You will work directly with the leadership and engineering teams of ISVs whose software runs 911 dispatch, digital evidence, court case management, permitting and licensing, and benefits eligibility.
Your customer is a commercial software company. Their customer is a government agency. Their end user is a constituent.
This is an advisory role, focused on generative AI, agentic architectures, and the data foundations that make both work in regulated environments. You own the technical relationship with a portfolio of GovTech ISVs, and you lead the architectural deep dives that shape what they build. It is hands-on in a specific way. You will build prototypes and reference implementations, demonstrate that a pattern works before an ISV commits to it, and unblock their engineers when they are stuck. You will NOT ship production features in their product.
The work starts with discovery. You ask about the platform, the constraints, and the requirements the ISV's government buyers impose, and you challenge the assumptions before you design to it. Much of the work is foundational: compute selection, well-modeled data across relational, NoSQL, and analytics stores, networking, identity, and cost at scale. The AI capabilities your customers want to ship are only as good as the platforms underneath them, so you will spend time on those primitives. You are effective when your ISV ships a better product on AWS.
Ability to travel up to 30%.
Key job responsibilities
- Guide ISV architecture decisions across compute, data, networking, identity, and databases. Advise on the trade-offs and prescribe a solution.
- Run discovery with ISV engineering and product teams to understand their platform, their constraints, and their customers' requirements before recommending an architecture path.
- Lead generative AI work on Amazon Bedrock: agentic patterns, retrieval-augmented generation, guardrails, evaluation, and responsible AI practices that hold up in a public sector procurement review.
- Help ISVs turn AI prototypes into production systems that meet the bar their public sector buyers require.
- Help ISVs modernize legacy platforms onto AWS with phased strategies such as strangler fig, replatforming, and domain decomposition.
- Explain how compliance shapes architecture in regulated state and local environments, including CJIS, StateRAMP, FedRAMP, HIPAA, and data residency.
- Communicate architecture decisions to ISV CTOs, VPs of Engineering, and government CIOs. Structure the trade-off discussion, defend the recommendation, and adjust depth to the audience.
- Help ISVs adopt AI-assisted development tools such as Kiro and Amazon Q Developer to accelerate their own engineering teams.
About the team
The GovTech Solutions Architecture team's mission is to be the best technology enabler for the ISVs who build software for state and local government and public safety. The work is technical, but the impact is human. The applications our customers ship affect how a citizen renews a license, how an investigator works a case, how a first responder gets dispatched. We take that seriously, and we look for teammates who do too.
Diverse Experiences
AWS values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying.
