Safety & Health Specialist
This position is responsible for providing safety technical assistance and consultative services to assigned business units and making presentations of injury/illness prevention and safety educational material in safety meetings and training sessions. The incumbent will conduct incident investigations and produce reports of findings and recommendations and will create and work with corporate communication to send out company-wide safety communication (injuries/illnesses, accidents, investigations, safety alerts, near misses, etc). The position will also manage corporate safety and training programs and initiatives.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Computer Sciences or related is preferred
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required
- Must have Southern Company experience and/or 3 years' experience working with data analytics
- Ability to manage the Mississippi Power Safety and Health intranet page
- Knowledge and experience in the design and implementation of programs and procedures preferred
- Experience with data manipulation (creating reports, trending data, pivot tables, etc)
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive business relationships
- Demonstrate outstanding oral and written communication and project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop presentations and speak publicly to a variety of audiences
- Demonstrated safety leadership and ability to conceptualize and develop safety programs to meet the needs of customers
- Strong planning, organizing, coordinating, problem solving and decision-making skills.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare presentations, reports and gather data to support company programs.
- Develop safety initiatives that leverage technological advancements.
- Oversee and manage projects relating to safety initiatives.
- Record, file, and investigate company accident and incident reports.
- Analyze data to identify recurring safety trends and key areas of concern.
- Compile and share historical information for intra-company communications.
- Administer company safety programs, including employee recognition efforts.
- Serve as an advisor to business units and leadership regarding ongoing and past programs.
- Deliver presentations on accident prevention and safety education materials.
- Collaborate with corporate communications to distribute company-wide safety updates regarding injuries, accidents, investigations, alerts, and near misses.
- Represent the company in Southern Company committees.
- Design, develop, assess, and deliver high-quality compliance training courses, including injury and illness prevention and safety education, presented in classroom or meeting settings.
- Act as Subject Matter Expert for the Emergency Action Plan, providing guidance, reporting, analysis, audit responses, and more.
- Facilitate risk assessments, monitor occupational and environmental hazards, and ensure appropriate responses to those risks.
