The Compliance Specialist maintains knowledge of current environmental health and safety (EHS) laws and regulations as they apply to the plant, and uses that knowledge to ensure compliance with permits, programs, and policies. Interfaces with regulatory agencies and ensures notification of the appropriate agency(s) in cases of non-compliance. Recognizes compliance issues that require attention and addresses them appropriately. Has a broad knowledge of all plant compliance programs (air, land, water, contractor compliance and safety) and assists in ensuring all program requirements are met.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Technology or related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of current EHS laws and regulations as they apply to the plant is preferred.
- PSM experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of power plant operations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Previous experience in writing and delivering presentations.
- Proficient use of computer applications and knowledge of budgeting processes.
Some Travel may be required up to 25%.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures compliance with permits, programs and policies by monitoring equipment, sampling, data acquisition, and interfacing with plant personnel and contractors.
- Investigates non-compliance incidents, ensures notification of appropriate regulatory agencies takes place, and directs the work activities of contractors and employees in emergency situations.
- Coordinates projects, including interfacing with employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Assists Compliance Team Leader with EHS program management including routine site assessments and Compliance ORB assessment responsibilities.
- Develops and tracks short and long-term budgets to ensure that necessary funds are available to meet current and future environmental needs.
- Assists with the training of plant personnel in compliance related programs and issues.
- Ensures compliance with all SCG EHS policies and procedures.
- Helps develop plant specific guidelines and action plans.
- System owner and/or shared system owner responsibilities, which may include SCR/PSM, Fire Protection, etc.
- Serve as plant wellness coordinator and be an active participant in the plant safety committee.
- Assists compliance team leader with the following programs such as but not limited to:
- 1. Environmental - NPDES, waste disposal and management, used oil, SPCC/FRP, universal waste, etc.
- 2. Safety - Site security, training, safety PM’s, SDS administrator (3E), contractor compliance management, etc.
- 3. Industrial Hygiene - Audiograms, fit testing, PPE inventory, gas monitors, lab draws, flu shots, etc.
