Southern Company Services is seeking a strategic, highly credible Human Resources Business Partner to support the Human Resources organization as a trusted advisor to leaders and teams. This role serves as an internal management consultant, partnering closely with senior leaders to translate business priorities into people strategies that strengthen organizational effectiveness, leadership capability, workforce planning, talent outcomes, and employee experience. The successful candidate will bring strong business acumen, sound judgment, and a consultative approach to delivering practical, high-impact HR solutions in a dynamic environment. Some overnight travel is required. The position is located in downtown Atlanta, GA.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with leaders to understand business priorities, organizational dynamics, and talent needs, and translate them into people strategies and actions that support business outcomes.
- Lead the execution of enterprise and function-specific HR priorities in ways that strengthen leadership effectiveness, team performance, and the overall employee experience.
- Provide strategic consultation on workforce planning, organizational design, talent movement, leadership effectiveness, and change management to address evolving business needs.
- Coach and influence leaders on team effectiveness, performance, development, engagement, and accountability in alignment with Southern Company values and expectations.
- Use data, trends, and organizational insight to identify risks, uncover opportunities, and recommend solutions that improve capability, retention, and organizational performance.
- Partner closely with HR Centers of Expertise, including Talent Management, Talent Acquisition, Compensation, and Inclusion, to deliver integrated solutions and high-quality HR support that advance business goals.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field preferred.
- Professional certifications such as PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
Experience:
- 8 years of progressive HR experience, including substantial experience in an HR business partner, HR generalist, or other advisory role supporting leaders and employees in a complex organization.
- Demonstrated success providing proactive, strategic consultation across core HR disciplines such as organizational effectiveness, talent management, employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, and change leadership.
- Experience supporting corporate, professional, shared services, or highly matrixed client groups is preferred; experience partnering with HR or other corporate functions is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Broad and current knowledge of major HR disciplines, including performance management, leadership development, succession and development planning, compensation, employee relations, workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, and change management.
- Strong consulting, influence, and relationship-management skills, with the ability to build credibility and partner effectively with senior leaders, managers, and HR colleagues.
- Strong analytical capability and comfort using workforce data, trends, and organizational insight to inform recommendations and support sound decision-making.
- Ability to connect people strategies to business plans and develop practical solutions in areas such as organizational design, talent planning, leader effectiveness, and change adoption.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and comfort learning and using HR systems, dashboards, and reporting tools.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, influence, and challenge leaders in ways that build trust, accountability, and strong organizational performance.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work through ambiguity, and deliver high-quality support in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Sound judgment and the ability to provide objective, thoughtful, and practical guidance on complex or sensitive matters.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
- Ability to lead and influence change by helping leaders and teams navigate transitions with clarity, confidence, and a focus on business and people outcomes.
- Ability to build strong partnerships with leaders and HR stakeholders and tailor support to the needs of a sophisticated internal client group.
- Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across a range of audiences.
- Self-directed, collaborative, and dependable, with a high level of initiative and the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a broader HR team.
- Strong execution focuses and commitment to delivering high-quality, business-relevant results.
- Working knowledge of employment practices, HR policies, and regulatory considerations, with the ability to provide practical guidance in support of compliant people practices.

- Ability to work in-office a minimum of 4 days per week and travel up to 25% as business needs require.
