ROLE OVERVIEW
The Stakeholder & Sustainability Specialist is responsible for advancing Georgia Power’s sustainability strategy by supporting external engagement, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and enhancing internal education. The Stakeholder & Sustainability Specialist must understand business and strategic direction and be capable of clearly communicating information to internal and external audiences. Key responsibilities include collaborating with internal and external partners, compiling and validating sustainability data across departments, supporting the preparation of reports and presentations, and monitoring regulatory and industry trends. The role also involves organizing sustainability-related events, stakeholder engagements, and educational activities.
This job occasionally requires attendance at meetings out of town or after normal working hours.
The specialist will contribute to the development of the company’s sustainability narrative and internal resource hub, ensuring consistent messaging and integration across business units. The specialist helps build dashboards and visualizations for internal and external reporting, develops training opportunities for sustainability employees and volunteers, and contributes to system-wide sustainability initiatives. The specialist will assist in crafting and implementing communication that translate complex policy and environmental issues into accessible content for diverse audiences.
This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to the development of Georgia Power’s sustainability narrative and internal resource hub.
- Coordinate across business units to ensure consistent sustainability messaging and integration.
- Assist in the formation and implementation of environmental communication strategies.
- Support internal education and communication around sustainability priorities.
- Communicate complex environmental and company policy issues in accessible ways.
- Compile sustainability data across departments.
- Collaborate with business units to ensure consistent and accurate data collection.
- Support the preparation of sustainability reports and presentations.
- Monitor regulatory and industry trends in sustainability and in environmental reporting.
- Organize and support sustainability-related events and external engagements.
- Provide strategic input on corporate giving and community partnerships.
- Support the Company’s storm restoration and emergency response efforts as appropriate.
- This position will occasionally require participation in various activities (meetings, community events, storm restoration, etc.) outside of normal working hours and may require travel throughout the state of Georgia or to Alabama 25-50% of employee’s time.
- These duties are the primary focus of the role, and additional duties may be assigned as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Communications, Public Affairs, or a related field
- 3–5 years of experience in energy, sustainability, ESG reporting, stakeholder engagement, corporate communications, or related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into accessible content
- Strong interpersonal and facilitative skills to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience compiling, validating, and analyzing sustainability-related data across departments
- High level of accountability; comfortable taking ownership of deliverables
- Understanding of company operations, energy policy, and sustainability principles
- Familiarity with regulatory and industry trends in sustainability or environmental reporting
- Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality control
- Skilled in developing training materials and internal education programs
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
