The Opportunity
This position works out of the Waukegan Airport in the CHR Corporate Human Resources division.
The Aircraft Maintenance Technical Engineerreports to the Director, Aviation Maintenance. Under general direction, ensures that the assigned corporate aircraft are maintained in an airworthy state that meets or exceeds company policies and procedures, all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, and industry best practices. Will actively participate in the department's Safety Management System. In addition, our AMTE's will fly on company aircraft for international trips or when deemed necessary by the Director of Aviation.
What You’ll Work On
- Follow the FAA-approved Abbott Laboratories aircraft inspection program, and ensure compliance with the applicable FAA regulations, manufacturers requirements, and company standards as outlined in the Abbott Laboratories Aviation Department Policy & Operations Manual.
- Maintain all aircraft maintenance records in proper format and in compliance with governmental regulations.
- Perform tests, adjustments, repairs, inspections, and other tasks related to the maintenance and repair of complex airframe systems, avionics, and turbine engines.
- Proven ability to efficiently and accurately troubleshoot and resolve aircraft discrepancies.
- High degree of technological aptitude with the ability to learn new systems and techniques.
- Ensure all aircraft maintenance inspections and repairs are completed in accordance with applicable FAA regulations and manufacturers’ recommendations.
- Ability to grasp key aviation safety concepts and participate in the Safety Management System
- Demonstrate high degree of professionalism and attention to detail.
- High level of communication skills to include verbal, written and standard business computer skills.
- Adaptability to time pressures and changing priorities.
- Ability to work within a team and develop individual employee ownership and leadership within the organization.
- Good working knowledge of industry regulations and standards.
- Assist with maintenance of inventories, material purchases, parts, and other items required to accomplish maintenance duties.
- Pursue professional development.
- Provide aircraft departure and arrival support.
- Must be flexible in work schedules: nights, weekends, and holidays.
Core Job Responsibilities
- While the job does not specifically contribute to corporate performance, the job is critical, as everything must be maintained in a “like new” condition in the hangar environment and on the aircraft.
- The operation and maintenance of our aircraft and ground support equipment are critical to our department’s success. It requires ourAMTE's to maintain a high level of training and expertise.
- AMTE’s will fly on company aircraft serving our passengers and assisting our flight crews ensuring our trips are successful and the aircraft remains airworthy for each trip.
- AMTE’s schedules will include nights’ holidays and weekends.
Required Qualifications
- 1-3 years general experience in aircraft maintenance preferred.
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant technician license (A&P)
- Areas of knowledge to include all aspects of turbine powerplant and powerplant accessories, hydraulic pneumatic, electrical, avionics and communication systems.

$85,300.00 – $170,700.00
