The Locator position will locate natural gas lines for Nicor Gas.
Functional Expertise:
- Follow company procedures and jurisdictional mandates for locating natural gas facilities in the Nicor Gas service territory
- Communicate, schedule, and complete natural gas locates for excavators working in Illinois
- Perform cathodic protection visual inspections wherever natural gas facilities are visible
- Document engagements with the Illinois excavating community related to project scheduling
- Photo document natural gas locates
- Communicate damage prevention best practices to the Illinois excavating community
Business Acumen:
- Interpersonal communicative abilities
- Technical expertise related to natural gas assets
- Basic understanding of electromagnetic and GPS locating techniques
- Reading GIS Atlas Maps & electronic records
Engagement:
- Team environment, working with multiple Nicor Gas technicians to complete project work
- Communicating “difficult to locate” situations to field supervisors and the Nicor Watch & Protect team for assistance
- Identifying and communicating problematic locate areas or mapping discrepancies

- Complete natural gas locates efficiently while adhering to procedural requirements
Education, Certifications/Licenses:
Required:
- High School or GED equivalent
- Valid drivers license
Preferred:
- Associates degree or other technical certification or training related to the utility industry
