Engineer – Plant Hatch
Summary of Job Duties: We have 2 openings for an engineer that may be filled as a plant support engineer or a design engineer at Plant Hatch in Baxley, GA.
System engineers ensure the reliability of assigned plant systems. They solve system and component problems, provide direct technical support for operation and maintenance, and plan long term performance improvements. Engineers at Southern Nuclear may have opportunities to manage special projects. Also, engineers typically take key refueling outage assignments. Future developmental assignments in operations, maintenance, training, or quality assurance often prepare engineers for supervisory and management positions. Engineering assignments typically include on-call duty engineer and emergency plan response requirements.
Program and component engineers direct implementation of assigned programs and work processes. Typical assignments are fire protection, Equipment Qualification, in-service inspection, in-service testing, NRC Maintenance Rule compliance, MOV/AOV/Heat Exchanger/Check valve component programs, cable monitoring, instrument & controls, flow accelerated corrosion, and/or snubber testing.
Design engineer duties include preparation and coordination of design development, calculation development and update, drawing changes, and preparing project cost estimates and schedules for plant modifications and retrofits. This position requires field walk-downs in industrial environments for as-built verification and design constructability. Design Engineers may have opportunities to manage special projects and perform key refueling outage roles, including design implementation oversight, problem solving and issue resolution, and conducting post modification testing.
- Additional duties include providing design oversight and review of products developed by external Architect / Engineering firms, interfacing with project managers, implementation engineers, and other plant department personnel to ensure all design requirements are met.

Job Requirements:
Educational Requirements:
- BS in Engineering is required. An Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering degree is strongly preferred. PE License desired
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Nuclear power plant experience is preferred
- Prior experience in controls is preferred
- 3 years of relevant engineering experience preferred
- A background in engineering with working knowledge of applicable discipline codes and standards required
- Working knowledge of regulatory requirements related to the nuclear power industry preferred.
- Working knowledge in BWR Systems, structures and components preferred.
- Previous experience in mechanical system analysis and software tools like PROTO-FLO is preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proven organizational skills with ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
- Capable of working efficiently and effectively across organizations.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft office products, specifically WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT.
