The  Governmental Affairs and Public Policy Manager  will grow and nurture relationships, partnerships, and programs that allow Alabama Power Company to have favorable outcomes at the state level. The successful candidate will work with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external to ensure that the best of interest of Alabama Power Company is conveyed to state government policymakers and opinion leaders.
  
  
  
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  
  
  
  
- Identify and manage projects for internal partners toward common goals 
 
  
- Develop and execute Public Policy concepts and strategies that grow the state of Alabama and ensure the reliable and affordable energy needs of the state
 
  
- Lobby the Alabama Legislature and state government to create positive outcomes for Alabama Power Company’s communities, employees, and business units.
 
  
- Develop innovative partnerships to create more positive interactions for Alabama Power with the legislature and executive branch of state government
 
  
- Building, maintaining, and managing relationships with trade associations and other organizations on a statewide level
 
  
- Manage compliance and ethics issues for the state governmental affairs team
 
  
- Proactively communicating with business units and partners concerning activities of the state government
 
  
- Attend state meetings and conferences to maintain relationships, create new ones, and stay abreast of the topics most relevant to Alabama Power and the state
 
  
- Serve as an internal company expert for statewide efforts
 
  
- Travel up to 25% of the time 
 
  
  
  
Candidates with the following preferred qualifications are encouraged to apply :
  
  
  
Experience
  
  
  
  
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience in public policy, state government, or governmental affairs inside an association or corporation 
 
  
- Knowledge and experience of key issues including tax, economic growth, workforce development, and infrastructure
 
  
- Proven experience developing public policy
 
  
- Management experience is a plus, but not necessary
 
  
- Masters degree or higher preferred
