Engineer – Georgia Transmission Control Center

Job Summary
The Transmission Control Center (TCC) Prearrange Engineer leads the clearance request process related to field engineer switching, which supports all major capital and maintenance projects on the Georgia Integrated Transmission System (ITS). The Prearrange Engineer serves as the Subject Matter Expert for field engineer written switching, mobile installations, Operating Instructions, and relay settings. The Prearrange Engineer provides engineering support during real-time operations and serves as a communication bridge between the TCC and field engineers. The Prearrange Engineer represents Georgia Power Company and System Operations at associated Georgia ITS, Southern Company, Transmission Planning, Construction, and Project Management meetings.
The successful candidate will gain extensive knowledge of Transmission System Operations and will build strong working relationships throughout Power Delivery, with other cross-functional areas, and with external stakeholders. The successful candidate will gain excellent project management experience in coordinating and meeting the clearance needs of our capital projects. As a subject matter expert, the Prearrange Engineer supports process enhancement projects and strategic initiatives. They are a leader on the team responsible for developing others and managing projects statewide.

Location: Physical office location is in Lithia Springs, GA. This role has statewide responsibilities. Relocation will be considered for the successful candidate.
This role involves occasional travel (<15%), typically not requiring overnight stays.
This position will be filled at exempt level 5E or 6E depending on the knowledge, skills, and experience of the successful candidate.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in coordinating the Engineer Switching process and providing related training to TCC and TMC teammates.
- Review, provide feedback, and approve engineer switching orders for Georgia Power and the ITS Participants.
- Provide engineering support to Transmission Operators in the Transmission Control Center
- Interact with field personnel (GPC and ITS participants) as well as SCS Design and TM&S Support to identify and track new equipment or communications issues and drive solutions.
- Support special projects like the Transmission Switching Procedure (TSP) Handbook that drive efficiencies in our business.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology is preferred, electrical is a plus
- Experience in Protection & Control Field Services (P&CFS) is required, 2+ years preferred.
- Alternately, significant System Operations or other clearance related experience demonstrating proficiency in engineer switching.
- Experience in SCS P&C Applications Design is a plus
