JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Data Architect will provide strategic and technical leadership in key areas of data management for Southern Company including:
- Data analysis
- Design and modeling
- Database management expertise
- Data quality and security management
- Creation/maintenance of data dictionaries and meta-data registries
The Senior Data Architect should have a proven record of working with both business and technical groups as well as moving into new technology areas and quickly mastering skills and knowledge required to administer, support, configure, consult, and build solutions within the framework.
This position requires 4 on-site days per week in the office.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define standards (naming, describing, governing, managing, modeling, cleansing, enriching, transforming, moving, storing, searching) that maximizes the value of data as an enterprise asset
- Champion data quality and quality improvement initiatives
- Assess impacts of change requests to the enterprise data architecture and infrastructure
- Work with the Technology Organization business representation to serve as a liaison between data consumers and data solution development, integration, and governance teams
- Work to ensure business data modeling is part of requirements analysis and system design
- Provide leadership and guidance in the definition and development of data documentation and standards
- Regularly review overall data management infrastructure for data integrity, performance quality, recoverability, maintenance, and space requirement considerations
- Provide technical leadership in the selection of technology and systems to meet business data needs
- Provide input into Southern Company’s data management strategy encompassing all forms of enterprise data including structured and unstructured data as well as “big data” elements
- Engage in concept discussions, proposed technology solutions to meet business objectives
- Stay abreast of the latest developments in information and data management throughout the industry
- Capture, document, analyze, and correlate business information from multiple data sources.
- Create white papers and thorough documentation of data related processes
- Collaborate with end users to identify needs, gaps and opportunities for improved data management and analytical solution delivery
- Collaborate with peers; mentoring team members to enhance skills and abilities; providing leadership as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mathematics, Engineering, Information Management Systems or related degree is preferred
- Proven knowledge of Enterprise Data and Information Architectures is required
- 8 plus; years of experience working in a fast-paced, competitive organization driven by data and enabled by technology is required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong technical competency skills in widely used database platforms. These may include but are not limited to SQL, T-SQL, PL-SQL, Spark, Hive, Impala.
- Strong technical competency on platforms such as Linux, SQL Server and Oracle.
- Strong understanding of Enterprise Data Catalogs along with experience implementing a data catalog such as Informatica.
- Experience with Cloud Data Architecture preferably Azure.
- Experience using MS Fabric and Databricks is preferred.
- Experience developing enterprise data and information architectures and models, data and information standards and related policies and frameworks
- Experience in all aspects of data and information management, business intelligence and decision support
- Experience in logical and physical database design, hands-on modeling techniques, and development methodology; physical schema design including dimensional modeling for Business Intelligence Solutions.
- Knowledge of Business Intelligence practices and toolsets. Microsoft toolset knowledge a plus.
- Experience working with the business to facilitate data management and data governance adoption processes
- Ability to transform technical jargon into meaningful business insight at varying levels of the organization
