Job Summary
The Hosting Capacity team is responsible for conducting statewide distribution feeder capacity studies for Georgia Power to support solar generation development on the distribution system. The team delivers distribution circuit capacity maps that help identify areas most suitable for renewable energy interconnections. This team plays a key role in supporting Georgia’s growing renewable energy landscape by ensuring that distribution system insights are accurate, timely, and aligned with regulatory and industry needs.
The Hosting Capacity Supervisor provides technical, analytical, and strategic leadership to a specialized team of engineers and a principal engineer responsible for producing Georgia Power’s statewide Hosting Capacity Map twice annually. This role includes direct performance management, as well as the training and professional development of team members.
The Hosting Capacity Supervisor plays a critical role in advancing Georgia’s transition to cleaner energy resources by delivering data‑driven insights that support responsible and efficient renewable generation development statewide. The position provides strategic input and guidance to executive leadership on workforce planning, skillset development, and future capabilities, including the development of a load hosting capacity map. Additionally, the Supervisor represents Georgia Power’s Distribution Planning organization on the Southern Company Distribution Planning Management Council and the Southern Company Electric Vehicle Committee.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the Hosting Capacity team by providing technical guidance and performance management, with direct supervision of a principal engineer and hosting capacity engineers responsible for conducting hosting capacity studies across Georgia Power’s distribution system.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of Hosting Capacity Map production, including planning, study execution, quality assurance, and publication, ensuring each release meets technical standards and organizational timelines.
- Guide the evaluation of distribution circuit capacity and renewable integration feasibility through advanced engineering analysis and modeling.
- Provide strategic direction to enhance methodologies, tools, and processes that support hosting capacity assessments, while advancing future capabilities and improving efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Distribution Planning, Grid Investment, Renewable Development, Geographic Solutions and Services, and various Regulatory teams, to align hosting capacity outputs with broader organizational goals.
- Ensure all work products, reports, and maps support transparent decision‑making and help inform the renewable development developers on areas most suitable for interconnection.
- Represent Georgia Power as a member of the Southern Company Distribution Planning Management Council and the Southern Company Electric Vehicle Committee.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence within the Hosting Capacity team.
Educational/Certification Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field is preferred.
- Advanced degree and/or PE certification are a plus.
Experience:
- Demonstrated focus on Safety
- A minimum of 5 years of Distribution and/or Transmission experience is required.
- Experience and/or knowledge in Hosting Capacity, Distribution Planning, Area Planning/Sub-Transmission Planning, Transmission Planning, Distribution Operations, Distribution Region/Field, Interconnections Planning, or Distributed Generation is preferred.
- Previous leadership experience with full performance management responsibilities is a plus.
- Experience with CYME, Python, PSS/E, or other System Modeling software is a plus.
