POSITION SUMMARY (“What are we looking for?”)
The Senior Manager, Retail Marketing leads the strategy, development, and execution of retail marketing initiatives across independent pet and key national accounts. This role serves as a critical link between Brand and Revenue teams, ensuring consistent brand messaging while driving sell-in, sell-through, and long-term retail growth. This role reports directly into the Sr. Brand Director but does require strong connection and collaboration with the Sales organization.
You’ll drive retail programming end-to-end — from supporting promotional strategy and retailer communications to in-store presence, training, and trade events — helping bring The Honest Kitchen brand to life wherever pet parents shop. Your primary customers will be Petco and PetSmart, but you will also support our Independent Pet Retailers across the US and Canada.
Key Responsibilities
Retail & Account Marketing
Collaborate with the Sr Brand Director to translate overarching marketing plans into retailer-specific plans
Collaborate with the VP of Sales to prioritize accounts and projects ensuring time is dedicated to driving maximum impact
Work with the Director of Key Accounts for Petco & PetSmart ensuring we maximize our Marketing investments and are driving as much synergy as possible to the overall Brand activations.
Support Joint Business Planning (JBP) conversations and execute retail strategies with key account partners
Serve as the primary marketing point of contact for Regional Sales Managers (RSMs), providing account-specific support and updates on promotions, programs, and launches that impact the Independent Pet Retailers
Retail Programs & Promotions
Evolve and partner with the sales team on the Retail Excellence Program to increase TDPs, maximize revenue in priority doors, and improve YOY growth and SKU velocities
Partner with the sales team to develop the independent channel promo playbook, while aligning programs with the broader THK marketing initiatives
Oversee coupon and offer platforms (Inmar, PromoPod), including barcode creation, offer setup, redemption reporting, and unpaid coupon approvals
Create and manage the annual sample plan across channels, including budget tracking, production coordination, and field distribution
Retail Communications & Training
Build and execute the annual retail email and SMS communication strategy to support key events, promotions, and programming
Manage the B2B communications platform and retailer contact database, including data hygiene and audience segmentation
Own retailer training strategy and execution, including:
Online training platform management
New training video development
Sales decks and tools for RSMs
Petco Partner Engagement series
KPI tracking and performance reporting
In-Store & Sales Support
Oversee development of all point-of-sale materials including POP signage, displays, and on-shelf communication
Lead creation of core sales support assets such as brochures, retailer guides, order forms, price lists, sell sheets, FAQs, and promotional materials
Support product marketing by developing retail go-to-market strategies and launch toolkits
Systems, Tools & Retail Operations
Manage and maintain marketing and sales asset platforms including Box, SharePoint, Issuu, Resight CRM, FedEx POD, and Salsify (retailer-facing catalog)
Assist the sales team in management of Resight CRM and Salesforce Cloud Marketing retail execution software, including account data accuracy, marketing asset builds in the platforms to communicate to retailers
Manage Go Planogram software and development of best-selling planograms for key accounts and RSMs
Maintain SOCi store locator platform with ongoing updates and quarterly data sweeps
Events & Cross-Functional Leadership
Lead trade show and large-scale retailer event execution (e.g., SuperZoo, Global, distributor shows, Petco Summit, PSP Summit, demo days)
Oversee development and execution of the company-wide promotional calendar and lead monthly cross-functional meetings to reduce channel conflict and increase visibility
Manage the Employee Feed Program, including goal setting, program optimization, and ongoing coordination with Accounting
Required Skills & Abilities
Exceptional organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
Comfortable working with urgency on short timelines while maintaining momentum on longer-term initiatives
Strong cross-functional collaborator with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Analytical mindset with experience tracking performance metrics and translating insights into action
Genuine love for animals and passion for improving their health and wellbeing
Willingness to travel (less than 10% of time)
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in Retail marketing, Trade marketing or Shopper marketing
Experience working within the Pet Channel (Independent, Big Box store) a major plus!
Experience working with software tools like Asana, Box, Salsify etc.
The salary range for this role is: $90,000 - $110,000/year.
