Nuclear Plant Instructor (Radiation Protection) - Plant Hatch
Plant Hatch has an opening for a Radiation Protection Instructor in the Maintenance and Technical Training organization. This job supports the Accredited Radiation Protection training program.
SUMMARY
The Nuclear Plant Instructor in the Maintenance and Technical Training organization prepares and presents training for Radiation Protection training program incumbents. The Nuclear Plant Instructor designs, delivers and evaluates classroom and laboratory instruction; develops training and examination materials; and maintains training records for the Radiation Protection training program. These activities are essential to maintaining INPO accreditation of the Station’s training programs.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Developing lesson materials to be used in the training programs
- Conducting training sessions
- Determining training program effectiveness
- Maintaining plant training records
- Reviewing and maintaining training materials
- Conducting assessments, research, and evaluations
- Develop and implement the overall training plan
- Supporting the line organization during refuel outage assignments- typically one month per year
- Assisting in Corrective Action Program (CAP) activities
- Use AI to detect opportunities to improve line performance
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (Science) preferred
- Completion of an accredited-based technical training program, or equivalent as evidenced by a certificate, diploma, transcript, apprentice program syllabus, and/or INPO accredited training program (records as available) is preferred
Background/Experience Requirements
- 5 years of Radiation Protection experience preferred
- At least 3 years power plant experience desired
- Radiation Protection Technician and/or RP Supervisor experience preferred
- Boiler Water Reactor (BWR) experience preferred (Pressurized Water (PWR), Department of Energy-Nuclear or US Navy Nuclear experience will be considered)
- Previous experience as a Radiation Protection instructor preferred
- Understanding of and experience with the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) process, including relevant INPO ACAD requirements desired
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Mastery of Radiation Protection subject matter
- Competence in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to multi-task
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Excellent organizational skills
- Detailed knowledge of Radiation Protection Processes
- Experience in the field applications of Radiation Protection fundamentals
- Ability to achieve and maintain a high level of proficiency as a certified INPO instructor
- Ability to assess relevant training needs for students in accordance with policies and standards from Southern Company, INPO, and the NRC
- Manage training curriculum using VISION program
- Design training courses and programs as necessary to meet training needs, and/or manage this activity via external provider(s)
- Cooperate with external training and accreditation bodies, agencies, and providers necessary to deliver required training to appropriate standards
- Organize training venues, logistics, transportation, and accommodations as required to achieve efficient training attendance and delivery
- Maintain all necessary lab equipment and materials
Other Requirements
The successful candidate must:
- meet background screening, NRC "Fitness for Duty" requirements and the company’s physical requirements to be respirator qualified.
- live within one hour of the SNC Emergency Operations Facility for emergency response availability.
