Project Controls Team Leader - Located at the Energy Center in Birmingham, AL or Georgia Power Headquarters in Atlanta, GA
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the oversight and coordination of the Technical Shared Services (TSS) Earned Value Management. This includes:
- Providing direction and implementation of Project Shared Services (PSS) policies, standards, and procedures.
- Ensuring Earned Value Management deliverables meet and/or exceed Business Operations Framework requirements in a timely manner to support project / program requirements.
- Providing strategic planning for all aspects of earned value management tracking / analyzing. This position may have full-time and/or supplemental / vendor service direct reports.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, engineering, business administration, or related field or minimum 5 years equivalent experience
Experience
- Minimum 5 years working directly in project controls/project management/construction management on capital projects required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in earned value management on large EPC projects is highly preferred
- Experience supervising a team, setting priorities, managing resources, and putting strategic objectives into place preferred
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment required
- Proficiency with Earned Value Management tools / processes and a strong understanding of how these tools / processes support project / program management decisions and associated communications required
- Demonstrated ability to conduct complex data analysis and develop earned value models is strongly preferred
- Experience with construction and associated contract methodologies preferred
- Proven experience in written and verbal communications to diverse audiences and ability to tailor communication accordingly.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of project earned value tracking techniques along with knowledge of project controls methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of construction and engineering productivity/earned value management.
- Knowledge of contract strategies/methodologies.
- Knowledge of project management principles.
Skills
- Proven ability to monitor project performance and identify variances from the plan; prepare and present project status reports to stakeholders; assist project managers with establishing progress measurement techniques (rules of credit); provide guidance to project team members on EVM standards.
- Must be able to lead and develop a diverse workforce, maximize team effectiveness, set high expectations of those around them and hold employees accountable for those expectations.
- Proven ability to plan and ability to discern problems that need immediate attention versus those that allow more time to resolve.
- Takes initiative to identify process gaps and to develop solutions.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Earned Value Management: Develops EVMS process and procedures for Small/Mid/Large Projects and /or Portfolios across Power Generation and Power Delivery Projects. Configures and maintains the EVMS, ensuring accurate data mappings and financial imports. Ensures compliance with EVMS standards and guidelines. Identifies reporting needs, embeds into standard and guidelines and coordinates periodic submission of EVMS required reports.
- Partnership: Serves as interface between Project Controls and partners. Implements recommended actions and improvements within their assigned projects / programs. Works closely with other Element Team Leads to ensure consistent implementation of Project Controls deliverables. Exhibits ability to work well with project managers, portfolio managers, procurement, engineering, construction, project controls, and accounting personnel.
- Strategic Planning: Manage team of Project Controls Analysts to deploy EVMS standards across key Projects / Programs. Proactively investigates shortcomings and unserved needs and prepares recommendations and business cases as appropriate. Assesses effectiveness of improvement initiatives post-implementation and plans corrective actions as appropriate. Communicates strategic plans to ensure understanding and shared vision.
- Performance Management: Supervises and manages daily activities of a team of full-time and/or supplemental / vendor service direct reports. Achieves superior business results across a diverse workgroup. Motivates employees to exhibit Our Values in all areas by example.

Travel Requirements
- This position will require some travel – approximately 25% per year – to include some overnight travel and will be primarily within the Alabama and Georgia service territory.
