The Virginia Natural Gas Corporate Communications Specialist will be responsible for supporting proactive development and execution of internal and external communications. This includes outreach and education on safety initiatives, infrastructure projects, community and corporate citizenship, customer communications, employee communications and more.
The Corporate Communications Specialist will work closely with peer team members and collaborate with internal and external business partners on a variety of business initiatives. The person in this role must be organized, detail-oriented, creative, have a solid understanding of corporate communication principles and strong writing and presentation skills.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proactively identify, propose and execute communications-related initiatives tied to business unit success, corporate strategy and company goals.
- Develop and execute communications plans to support business programs and initiatives including conducting regular reviews to determine effectiveness and future opportunities.
- Create effective and engaging external messaging content, to include but not limited to PowerPoint presentations, newsletters, web content, social media and bill inserts while coordinating with team members to ensure consistent messaging and brand voice; demonstrate successful results of outreach efforts.
- Provide internal communication counsel and content, drive processes, draft and deploy employee messaging using a variety of communication tools.
- Coordinate closely with team members to manage workflows, timelines and coordination across communication projects to ensure efficient execution and consistent delivery.
- Develop, review and edit, as needed, all communications for business units to ensure consistency in brand positioning and key messaging.
- Measure and report on ROI of various communications campaigns/initiatives, optimizing to ensure effectiveness and maximum performance
- Represent the department by participating on committees or sub-committees as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in communications, public relations, marketing or related field and at least 3+ years of experience in communications and marketing. Preferred: energy industry experience; knowledge of utility operations, issues, policies and corporate strategy.
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to develop messages, talking points, holding statements and other communications and content under tight deadlines.
- A strong understanding of new digital technologies, social media development, and other relevant technology-based communications vehicles. Stays current with relevant technology and innovation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, AP Style, Canva, AI and Sprout Social or adjacent platforms.
- Ability to manage large workloads while coordinating fast-paced projects on time and on budget.
- Proven presentation, written and verbal communications skills and equally strong interpersonal skills.
- Strategic judgment in messaging, editing and creative review.
- Self-starter with excellent follow-through.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Due to nature of role, employee may occasionally work beyond traditional business hours to meet deadlines or attend events as a company representative.
- Works in a hybrid office environment – at least four days a week in our Virginia Beach office required.
- Occasional Travel (5-10% travel): The incumbent will be required to travel on occasion. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
