The Profitability and Economic Analysis Manager is responsible for economic modeling, margin analysis, and pricing evaluations that support strategic customer programs, large-load and special contract opportunities, regulatory filings, and long‑term planning.
This position translates complex financial and operational models into clear insights for senior leadership and stakeholders while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams (Customer Solutions, Power Contracts, Sales, Economic Development, Regulatory, Resource Planning, Planning and Regulatory Support, etc.). In this capacity, the manager plays a key role in Alabama Power’s strategic growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Manage, coach, and develop analysts; set expectations for business results, documentation, and communication
- Financial Analysis and Modeling: Lead development and oversight of profitability, margin, and economic models supporting end‑use programs, large‑load customers, and emerging opportunities, including sensitivity and scenario analysis
- Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert on system marginal costs and represent Alabama Power as a voting member of the System Team for Economic Analysis and Marginal Cost Assumptions
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Regulatory, Resource Planning, and Finance to align modeling assumptions, support white papers and commission filings, and respond to stakeholder questions
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in an analytical field such as Engineering, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline is required (advanced degree preferred)
- Experience: Experience in economic analysis, financial modeling, pricing, or utility‑related analytics is required. Experience with PRICEM (Southern Company’s internal economic modeling tool for evaluating the financial viability of large customer projects and strategic programs) is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel‑based modeling and analysis of large, complex datasets
- Leadership and Communication: Demonstrated cross-functional leadership experience is required; formal leadership experience with high-performing teams preferred
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with large‑load or contract pricing, demand side management programs, or regulatory environments is preferred
This position will report to the Marketing Strategy & Intelligence Manager and will work in downtown Birmingham at the Alabama Power Corporate Headquarters.
