Salary Range:
$185,000.00 - $241,000.00
What’s the role?
We’re looking for a Staff Product Manager to lead a new, 0→1 product space focused on Belonging within Etsy’s Android app. This role is about defining and proving how Etsy can evolve from a transactional marketplace into a place where buyers feel a genuine human connection to what, and who, they’re buying from.
You will be responsible for the strategy, experimentation, and early execution of features that make Etsy feel more personal, trusted, and community-driven. That means going beyond conventional levers like price and promotions, and instead building and validating new signals rooted in impact, social proof, and shared identity.
Your work will center around three core problem spaces:
Making impact visible: Can we increase repeat buying by clearly showing how a purchase benefits a real person, community, or cause? You’ll define how and when to surface this “this purchase matters” narrative, and test its effect against traditional incentives.
Building confidence through others: Can we help new users convert faster by showing what other people are discovering, engaging with, and purchasing in real time? You’ll explore how social and community-driven signals reduce uncertainty, especially early in the user journey.
Creating connection through identity: Can we deepen loyalty by highlighting relevant similarities between buyers and sellers—like shared values, background, or location? You’ll resolve which signals actually drive trust and repeat engagement.
This is not an optimization role. You will be encouraged to operate with high ambiguity, synthesize what we already know with strong product intuition, and build the initial playbook for how “Belonging” is crafted, felt, and measured at Etsy. Starting on Android, your goal is to generate insights and product patterns that can scale across all platforms. Success in this role requires strong 0→1 thinking: defining the problem space, shaping the long-term vision of belonging on Etsy, and running principled experiments to turn that vision into something real, measurable, and repeatable.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Group Product Manager, Android. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Etsy offers different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team. Learn more details about our work modes and workplace safety policies here.
What’s this team like at Etsy?
Empowered and bold: This is a team that’s trusted to take real swings. We’re not here to incrementally improve the status quo, we’re here to define a new product space. You’ll have the autonomy to place bets, test big ideas, and shape what Belonging means at Etsy.
Influence-driven: Our work doesn’t stop at Android. We’re expected to lead through influence, turning early insights into strategies that scale across teams, surfaces, and the entire buyer journey. Success here means bringing others along and making your ideas stick.
Deeply collaborative: We’re a tight-knit, cross-functional group of PMs, engineers, designers, and researchers who genuinely enjoy working together. We challenge each other’s thinking, value diverse perspectives, and care about getting to the best answer and not about being right.
Mission-led, but practical: We’re motivated by building experiences that create real human connection between buyers and sellers—but we ground that ambition in rigorous experimentation and measurable outcomes.
Curious and experimental: We operate with a learning attitude, moving quickly to test hypotheses and uncover what actually drives trust, confidence, and connection. We’re comfortable with ambiguity and energized by solving nuanced, human-centered problems.
What does the day-to-day look like?
Define and evolve the Belonging strategy: Turn an ambiguous opportunity into a clear plan, even when success metrics are still emerging.
Drive a rigorous learning agenda: Design experiments to test how impact, social proof, and shared identity influence behavior, and use results to build conviction.
Build 0→1 product experiences: Work closely with your team to take ideas from concept to launch, then iterate quickly based on what you learn.
Lead through influence across Etsy: Partner with Marketing, Support, and other product teams to connect your work to the full buyer journey and scale what works.
Guide high-stakes decisions: Help leadership navigate ambiguity, make trade-offs, and align on where to invest.
Keep the team focused on what matters: Ensure the team is solving the right problems, using the right signals, and delivering meaningful impact.
Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.
This role will evolve as we learn. You should expect to adapt quickly and tackle new challenges as we define this space.
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
Proven product leadership: 5+ years of experience in consumer product management, with a track record of owning strategy and delivering products at scale that drive meaningful business and user impact.
0→1 and ambiguous problem spaces: Experience defining new product areas from scratch, setting direction without a clear playbook, and establishing success metrics where none exist.
Experience with social, social commerce, marketplace, or community-driven products: Familiarity with products that rely on user behavior, trust, identity, or network effects, such as social platforms, UGC ecosystems, or marketplaces.
Strong product judgment and experimentation skills: Ability to translate broad ideas into clear hypotheses, design thoughtful experiments, and use data to inform decisions while balancing intuition.
Influence without authority: Demonstrated ability to align and drive outcomes across senior cross-functional partners, including engineering, design, research, marketing, and leadership.
Resilient and adaptable: Comfortable navigating setbacks, shifting priorities, and evolving strategies, while keeping teams focused and motivated.
High standards for craft and collaboration: Commitment to building high-quality experiences, giving and receiving direct feedback, and fostering a strong, respectful team culture.
