Senior Application Developer
Location: Atlanta, GA. (Onsite 4 days a week)
Position Overview
The Application Developer position is part of the Corporate Services Systems Application Portfolio - Corporate Back-Office Technologies (CBOT) group, within the SCS Technology Organization (TO) as a part of the team responsible for providing support to a suite of solutions for Risk Management across the Operating Companies. Specifically, the position will directly support the core Assure Claims (formerly RiskMaster) platform – inclusive of associated custom-developed web applications and utilities, integrations, batch processes, and reporting solutions – as well additional solutions such as CompIQ, RxBridge, and others. The position will be responsible for ensuring delivery of timely, quality, reliable, secure, and compliant solutions, via the close collaboration and partnership with supported Business Partners, third-party vendors, and other TO support resources. The position blends hands‑on application development with strong production support, integration, and third-party vendor coordination responsibilities in a highly visible, business‑critical environment.
Position responsibilities include: Providing functional and technical subject matter expertise for Business Partner application solutions (custom development, vendor packages, SaaS); Performing design, development, integration, configuration, testing, and implementation of Business Partner application solutions (inclusive of vendor solutions); Performing problem/root cause analysis and resolution (production support) for Business Partner application solutions; Providing consultation for application life cycle management; Staying abreast of emerging business technology trends and needs.

The Application Developer must have strong technical, consultative, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to deliver innovative solutions to business problems in a fast-paced environment. The position will require excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, planning, and organizational skills.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide functional and technical subject matter expertise for the Assure Claims platform and related ecosystem of applications, serving as a trusted partner to business stakeholders.
- Design, develop, enhance, integrate, and support custom‑built, vendor‑provided, and SaaS application solutions aligned with Southern Company standards and methodologies.
- Develop and support application integrations using RESTful APIs, batch processes, file‑based transfers, scheduled jobs, and messaging patterns.
- Support and maintain custom interfaces and batch jobs that transfer claim, vendor, and payment data between Assure Claims, Oracle Accounts Payable, Payroll (Oracle HCM), and third‑party service providers.
- Support reporting and analytics solutions associated with Assure Claims, including legacy BI/reporting tools and modern analytics platforms (e.g., Sisense/Power BI), in partnership with data and analytics teams.
- Perform root cause analysis and deliver timely, effective production support for business‑critical claims processing and payment workflows, including some on‑call and after‑hours support as needed.
- Coordinate with vendors (e.g., Assure Claims support teams and third‑party providers) on incidents, upgrades, security remediations, and enhancement efforts.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, data, and compliance teams to ensure solutions meet enterprise standards for security, privacy, regulatory compliance, and performance.
- Provide accurate estimates, status updates, and technical documentation in support of project planning and operational reviews.
- Maintain application and operational documentation, including runbooks, monitoring procedures, and support playbooks.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve application stability, automation, supportability, and business efficiency.

Education & Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in full‑stack application development and production support using C# and .NET technologies.
- Experience developing and supporting enterprise web applications using modern frameworks (e.g., Blazor) with strong proficiency in HTML and CSS.
- Experience building and supporting RESTful services using ASP.NET Web API.
- Experience supporting batch processing, scheduled jobs, and file‑based integrations.
- Experience working with enterprise data, including Oracle and SQL Server, with strong expertise in SQL development (designing and optimizing stored procedures, views, and functions), database queries, scripting, reporting, and use of ORM frameworks (e.g., Entity Framework, NHibernate, Dapper); able to translate business requirements into reliable analytics, dashboards, and insights while supporting data quality and access controls.
- Experience supporting analytics, reporting, and/or data visualization solutions (e.g., Sisense, Power BI, SSRS, or similar tools).
- Experience using source control and CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps and GitHub.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to independently resolve complex production issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Preferred / Desired Experience
- Experience working with Assure Claims is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting claims management, risk management, insurance, or financial processing systems.
- Experience installing, deploying, and maintaining both standard and custom vendor software solutions on Windows and/or Linux systems, including the use of relevant tools, automation methods, and deployment processes.
- Experience working with vendor‑hosted or hybrid enterprise applications and coordinating with vendors on incidents, upgrades, and security remediation.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud‑based application architectures.
- Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse) is a plus.
- Experience implementing or integrating AI‑enabled capabilities (e.g., copilots, intelligent automation, AI‑assisted workflows or analytics) within enterprise applications, with awareness of security, privacy, and governance considerations.
- Familiarity with agile and waterfall development methodologies in regulated or enterprise environments.

- Must be able to qualify for Southern Company’s Insider Threat Program (ITP).
- This role supports a business‑critical platform; occasional night or weekend work may be required for production support, deployments, and/or incident resolution.
- Occasional travel may be required based on business needs.
