Akamai's Cloud Technology Group (CTG) takes ownership for designing, building, maintaining and operating our global CDN and compute platform. We develop and deploy critical technologies that provide the technical underpinnings for all of Akamai's products. The CTO's team ensures consistent security, reliability and availability for our customers.

As a Principal Architect, you will drive the evolution of Akamai's platform architectures, leading cross-engineering efforts to identify, prioritize, and design solutions for critical platform system initiatives whose execution will form the foundation for all of Akamai's products and services.
As a Principal Architect reporting to the CTO of our global cloud platform, you will be responsible for:
- Identifying critical improvements for inclusion in the platform systems roadmap.
- Collaborating with architects across engineering to define solutions for delivering our platform roadmap.
- Socializing and building consensus around technical strategy decisions across product lines and teams to advance our platform vision.
- Engaging with both external partners and stakeholders across the company to achieve our platform evolution goals
- Working with counterparts in engineering to ensure that our platform architecture aligns well with other product goals
Do what you love
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have 15 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent
- Demonstrate extensive experience developing and documenting architectures for large-scale distributed systems.
- Able to clearly articulate design decisions to implementation teams.
- Have solid experience with high availability software systems and methods for achieving service security, reliability and operability objectives.
- Be self-motivated; have effective communication skills and be able to influence and motivate others.
- Possess working knowledge of Internet protocols (routing, TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, etc.) and computer security (OS, containers, protocols).
- Have a good understanding of SaaS, PaaS, IaaS with experience in one or more public cloud offerings .
