- Hybrid work schedule (both in-office and telecommute); currently four (4) days in-office and one (1) day telecommute.

- This position will require some travel (day and overnight, up to 25%) and the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment with access to internet service.

The Capacity Procurement team plays a pivotal role, working cross-functionally across the Company to develop and administer Request for Proposals (RFPs) to procure Energy Storage Systems and thermal generation to meet the growing load needs and fleet transition for Southern Company’s retail operating companies (Alabama Power Company, Georgia Power Company, and Mississippi Power Company), which includes the evaluation, due diligence, and selection of these future generation proposals.
This position will be filled as an Engineer / Engineering Analyst based on the successful candidate’s education. The role will primarily support Georgia Power Company’s capacity RFP activities through all phases of the RFP process, including the initial RFP design through commercial operation or delivery commencement. This position will also support the structuring and development of the associated commercial contracts which include Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and Asset Purchase Agreements (APAs) for existing operating assets.
Job Duties & Responsibilities _:_
- Support the lifecycle development and administration of capacity RFPs.
- Interface with internal partner organizations (Resource Planning, Generation Planning & Development, Technical Shared Services, Accounting, Finance, and Treasury, Transmission Planning, etc.) to design, implement, and administer capacity RFPs. This includes supporting the development of RFP documents and pro forma contract development, assisting with bid evaluation efforts to ensure accurate and timely evaluation, and the selection of winning proposals.
- Work directly with the Public Service Commission Staff and 3 rd Party Independent Evaluator (IE) during the design, implementation and administering of the RFP.
- Identify and implement process improvements and program enhancements utilizing internal and external feedback
- Lead efforts to track major milestones for capacity RFPs and associated projects.
- Provide regulatory support such as witness preparation, testimony, and data request response development, as needed for the certification process of selected proposals.
- Foster and maintain strong working relationships and communicate effectively with internal and external parties.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, finance or other technical/business area of study preferred
- Additional consideration given for master’s degree and/or relevant industry certifications (EIT, PE, CEM, PMP, etc.)
- Prior experience in generation, renewables, analytics, project management, system planning and/or operations preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, contract development, asset management and/or regulatory programs preferred
- Experience negotiating, developing, and / or managing procurement contracts (PPAs, APAs, BTAs, EPCs, LTSA) is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proven or demonstrated leadership, effective communication, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and prioritize work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Strong ability to multitask, efficiently respond to dynamic deadlines, and manage competing interests.
- Ability to build relationships and resolve conflicts within large and diverse cross-functional teams.
- Ability to interface with regulators, industry peers, suppliers and internal stakeholders with deep understanding of the utility and energy space.
- Ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner to a broad group of stakeholders.
Other Information
