This position is in the Accounting Research Department, collaborating with a team responsible for providing accounting guidance on new, proposed, or non-routine transactions while considering financial, regulatory, and tax accounting impacts and ensuring compliance with GAAP, SEC, FERC, and Georgia Public Service Commission (GPSC) requirements.
The person in this position will work directly with Georgia Power Company's (GPC) Accounting Finance and Treasury (AFT) organization, AFT management, other system departments, other operational management, internal and external auditors, and any other providers or users of accounting data to ensure compliance with emerging and changing issues. This position will be located in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia Power Corporate Office.
The position will be:
- filled at a level depending on the skills and experience of the individual selected;
- required to review contracts and leases entered into by the Company to ensure proper GAAP and regulatory accounting treatment;
- required to maintain a current review of all new pronouncements, standards, interpretations, and directives issued by the FASB, SEC, FERC, and GPSC;
- responsible for researching technical accounting and regulatory issues, formulating accounting conclusions, and formally documenting the Company's position;
- responsible for providing Accounting management with assurance that the financial reporting and disclosures of the Company are accurate by ensuring compliance with all accounting principles and regulatory requirements; and
- assisting with the Company's response to proposed guidance issued by the FASB, SEC and any other regulatory body.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience & Education:
- BS or BA in Accounting or equivalent is required
- CPA and an advanced degree are preferred
- 3+ years of work experience in an accounting discipline is preferred (utilizing skills and abilities outlined herein, including applying ASC 842, ASC 606, etc.)
- Experience in a public accounting firm is desirable
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge and ability to apply GAAP and SEC rules and reporting requirements
- Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley Act
- Knowledge of FERC System of Accounts and rate making concepts a plus
- Working knowledge of accounting research tools
- Ability to research accounting transactions and regulatory issues and provide sound guidance
- Comfortable with making decisions.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Ability to communicate accounting applications and analysis to non-financial employees.
- Exhibit strong initiative and require minimal supervision.
