Job Summary
The Senior Financial Analyst - Manufacturing supports the Manager, FP&A in delivering financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and analytical support across business operations, including manufacturing and product sales. This role is responsible for preparing detailed financial analyses, developing models, and producing management reporting that enables operational and executive leadership to understand performance drivers, evaluate opportunities, and make informed decisions.
The Senior Financial Analyst - Manufacturing partners closely with operational leaders, accounting, and cross-functional teams to analyze financial results, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic initiatives. This role is hands-on and execution-focused, with opportunities to influence business outcomes through data-driven insights and continuous process improvement.
In addition, this role will provide critical support for current manufacturing expansion project by overseeing finance-focused initiatives from initiation to completion. The Senior Financial Analyst - Manufacturing is responsible for tracking and reporting project budgeting, spending, and scheduling, conducting financial analysis and reporting to identify and mitigate financial risks throughout the project, ensuring the project meets its goals.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Forecasting
- Support the annual budgeting process and periodic reforecasts across manufacturing and product sales activities.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance financial models supporting revenue drivers, cost structures, capacity, and margins by product line.
- Prepare scenario and sensitivity analyses to support planning assumptions and business decisions.
- Assist with long-range planning and ad hoc financial modeling as requested by FP&A leadership.
Business Performance & Analytics
- Perform analysis of monthly revenues, costs and expenses to ensure accurate monthly reporting for manufacturing and product sales activities.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly management reporting packages, including variance analysis versus budget, forecast, and prior periods.
- Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including spending trends for major procurement categories, manufacturing cost variances, product margins, pricing, mix, and overhead absorption.
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities in financial and operational performance and communicate findings clearly to FP&A leadership.
- Support margin improvement, pricing, and cost optimization initiatives through detailed analysis.
Financial Reporting
- Support the monthly accounting process for manufacturing and product sales activity, including revenue and cost accruals / deferrals.
- Prepare journal entries for manufacturing and product sales activity, as well as in support of General Accounting, as necessary.
- Maintain key controls over financial reporting at the manufacturing location, including physical inventory and fixed asset controls, and capital project accounting.
Operational & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner with manufacturing, sales, supply chain, and operations teams to provide financial insights and analytical support.
- Monitor inventory accuracy, perform variance analysis, and collaborate with production teams to ensure cost control measures are implemented.
- Collaborate with accounting to ensure consistency between actual results, forecasts, and financial reporting.
- Lead standard costing analysis, manufacturing productivity initiatives, and cost structure reviews.
Capital, Investment & Strategic Support
- Partner with operational teams to prepare capital expenditure requests, including ROI analysis and financial justification preparation.
- Provide financial analysis for new products, fleet investments, and operational initiatives.
- Assist with M&A-related analysis, including financial modeling, due diligence support, and integration planning, as needed.
Systems, Process Improvement & Reporting
- Support continuous improvement of FP&A processes, tools, and reporting, including automation and business intelligence enhancements.
- Assist with ERP and planning system implementations, upgrades, and data validation efforts.
- Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across financial models and reporting outputs.
- Prepare ad hoc analyses and support special projects as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- 4–7 years of progressive experience in financial planning, analysis, or corporate finance.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, service, rental, or asset-intensive businesses strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of cost structures, margin analysis, and operational KPIs.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with ERP and planning systems preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
- CPA, CMA, or MBA a plus but not required.
