Job Summary
This position will report to the Maintenance Team Leader. The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the following duties: Primary coordination role of site contract maintenance group. Primary planning and scheduling role for onsite contract group. The Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for following and enforcing contract terms with respect to the Southern Company Maintenance and Modification Agreement (SCMMA). The position will also hold system owner duties. As a system owner for assigned area/equipment, duties will be to ensure generating availability, efficiency, and reliability. Initiate, develop, and implement plant improvement projects. Be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing technical direction and maintenance expertise where needed to support assigned system. Support and coordinate processes (such as Maximo, Maintenance Strategy, RCA, etc.). Develop and monitor budgets (current, 5-year, & 10-year) for process and equipment needs. Provide support for Team Leaders and the Engineering/Performance department as necessary. System assignments will be made based on experience.
Job Requirements
- Must have a minimum of 5 years journeyman level experience in Operations and/or Maintenance of an Electric Generating Plant or 5 years journeyman level experience in other industrial work environments or 5 years planning experience in a power generation/industrial work environment.
- Must have a thorough understanding of plant equipment, systems, and operation.
- Must exhibit critical thinking; have the ability to analyze situations; implement cost-effective solutions.
- Must be able to work in a team environment to achieve organizational objectives.
- Must possess effective written and oral communication skills.
- Must be able to present to groups and facilitate meetings as needed.
- Must have a working knowledge of budgets and the budgeting process.
- Must have the ability to make decisions and demonstrate short/long-term strategic planning skills.
- Experience with P6 scheduling software or similar is preferred
- Must be proficient in the use of computer-based applications (Microsoft Office applications, Enterprise solutions tools).
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure all safe work practices are strictly adhered to while performing work efficiently.
- Primary system will be determined based on candidate experience and may change based on plant needs.
- Monitor routine operation of assigned Plant Equipment.
- Investigate improvements to equipment on an ongoing basis, deriving work scopes and solutions, and implementing action plans.
- Ensure equipment/system applicable codes and/or standards are strictly adhered to, to include but not limited to OSHA and ASME, along with Southern Company policy standards such as SOEs.
- Manage routine, outage, and capital budgets for assigned equipment, systems, and/or processes.
- Support as needed major maintenance or replacement activities plantwide as well as within assigned system by providing direction and coordination of assigned Maintenance crews and/or contractor personnel, monitoring quality, cost, and adherence to contract specifications.
- Serve as the System SME provide/facilitate system related training to plant personnel.
- Effectively utilize Enterprise Solution tools to maintain system efficiency and reliability.
- Optimize system maintenance strategy.
- Identify and address equipment issues.
- Utilize and support the Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Event Learning processes.
- Establish an ongoing relationship with key vendors; gather and analyze acceptance data on new/rebuilt equipment; and stay informed of current technology.
- Support the Best Practices program by developing and implementing Best Practices in a timely manner.
