JOB SUMMARY:
This role is responsible for driving the execution of AI-enabled use cases across the Customer Solutions organization at Southern Company. Acting as the bridge between operating company business stakeholders, data and technical teams. This position translates customer experience priorities into actionable requirements and ensures successful delivery of AI solutions that drive measurable customer and business outcomes. The AI Product Owner will own end-to-end execution of prioritized use cases—coordinating across business leaders, AI/analytics teams, engineering teams, technology teams and governance bodies to ensure solutions are delivered on time, aligned to standards, and producing value.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Domain Expertise
- Experience owning technical projects, products or platforms in enterprise environments.
- Understanding of AI and agentic AI capabilities, limitations, and delivery patterns.
- Familiarity with data, analytics, and AI governance models, particularly in regulated industries.
- Familiarity with customer experience, customer analytics or customer research domains
- Experience working in large, matrixed, or multi-business unit organizations
- Knowledge of utility operations, enterprise systems, or digital transformation initiatives is a strong plus.
Individual Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience owning leading technical products, platforms or large-scale initiatives
- Must have a minimum of 3 years experience in AI Product Manager or AI Project Manager required
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Technology, Artificial Intelligence or related field required
- Strong judgment in prioritization, balancing value, risk, and technical complexity.
- Ability to align and synthesize diverse stakeholder inputs into a coherent product direction.
- Clear, structured communicator comfortable engaging senior leaders and translating between business and technical audiences.
- Outcome-oriented mindset with a focus on measurable business and operational impact.
Technical Skills
- Ability to engage in architectural and design discussions without being the primary implementer.
- Experience writing clear product requirements for AI-driven systems, including non-functional requirements (security, reliability, explainability).
- Preferred experience with Databricks, Azure, or any other cloud data platforms
- Familiarity with Agile and product management practices (roadmapping, backlog management, release planning).
- Comfort interpreting AI performance metrics, adoption signals, and operational dashboards.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define product vision and roadmap. Shape and prioritize solution capabilities and agentic AI use cases based on enterprise value, feasibility, and risk.
- Lead execution of prioritized AI use cases across multiple teams and operating companies
- Translate outcomes into delivery-ready requirements. Convert business and operational needs into clear epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria aligned to AI platform standards.
- Balance innovation with governance. Ensure responsible AI, security, and regulatory considerations are embedded into product scope and delivery decisions.
- Own backlog and prioritization. Manage and continuously refine the product backlog, balancing near-term wins with foundational platform investments.
- Partner across delivery roles. Work closely with AI Architects, AI Engineers, and ML Ops Engineers to align scope, sequencing, and technical trade-offs.
- Drive adoption and value realization. Define success metrics, oversee pilots, and guide scaling of AI solutions across operating companies.
- Act as primary stakeholder interface. Serve as the point of accountability for executive sponsors, business owners, and governance forums.
