Accounting Systems Analyst
JOB SUMMARY
The Accounting Systems Analyst is responsible for supporting Southern Power’s Accounting organization, including the Corporate, Renewables, Property, Lease, and Financial Reporting teams. This role partners across the organization to enhance accounting systems and applications, ensuring they operate reliably, effectively, and efficiently. The Analyst manages system-related matters, troubleshoots issues, and coordinates with subject matter experts and the technology organization, as needed, to drive timely and effective resolution.
In addition, the Analyst contributes to strategic initiatives focused on enhancing business processes and systems in support of Southern Power’s evolving business model. This position may also serve in a team lead role on small- to medium-sized projects.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain strong working relationships with Southern Power Accounting, Consolidated Accounts Payable, Southern Power IT, the Southern Company Services support and technology organizations, and Southern Power Corporate functions in Atlanta and Birmingham.
- Serve as the financial close coordinator by managing schedules, coordinating tasks, performing journal and subledger reviews, and working with Southern Company support teams to ensure issues impacting the close are resolved in a timely manner.
- Perform system administration for ARCS, Costar, and PowerPlan, including asset management and ad hoc end-user support.
- Serve as the implementation, testing, and training coordinator for existing and new applications.
- Perform and review miscellaneous SOX controls and reports for Maximo and Costar.
- Administer entities in Cool Compliance for SPC Maximo and Costar.
- Coordinate with Supplier Information Process Solutions and Consolidated Accounts Payable on the creation and maintenance of new and existing internal and external suppliers. Validate the results of automated processes between Acuity and Oracle Cloud (AR).
- Request new segment values and updates to existing segment values in DRM.
- Administer TEAMS and Monday.com sites used for internal communication and coordination for the Southern Power Comptroller’s organization.
- Maintain Southern Power's business continuity plan and records management.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
- BS or BA in Business Information Systems, Information Technology, Accounting, or a related discipline is required
- Advanced degree is a plus
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience
- Oracle Certifications are preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of Oracle Cloud (GL, AR, ARCS, DRM, FCC, and AP) and Maximo or similar enterprise asset management software is preferred
- Experience with OACS, OTBI, and/or other reporting tools/platforms is preferred.
- Project management skills are required, with execution skills demonstrated across multiple departments
- Knowledge of business accounting or experience working with Accounting, Finance, and Treasury is preferred
- Experience and understanding of accounting controls, systems, and financial accounting processes is required
- A positive, professional attitude with strong interpersonal and communication skills is required, along with the ability to work effectively as a team player
- An initiative-taking work style and strong critical-thinking skills are required, along with the ability to be a self-starter
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines are required
