CORPORATE ARCHIVIST - FACILITIES
Please Note: There will be an in-office presence expectation at 241 Ralph McGill Blvd, Atlanta, GA four (4) days per week and/or as additionally required.
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for identifying, preserving, organizing, and making accessible the company's historical documents, records, and artifacts, ensuring the accurate representation of the company's history by carefully selecting and cataloging key materials that document its development, products, services, and significant events, while implementing proper preservation techniques to maintain their integrity for future access and research purposes; often working closely with various departments within the company to identify important records and manage the archival collection.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Work years of experience: 2-5 years of records management experience, knowledge of physical and digital archiving techniques, assessment of physical condition of materials, and regulatory requirements related to record-keeping
Education: Advanced degree in Library Sciences, Information Management, History or related field preferred.
Special Certification: certified Archivist, digital archives specialist (DAS) certificate or related certificate preferred.
Preferred qualifications: Organizational skills, knowledge of preservation techniques, ability to assess and appraise historical value of an item, experience with technical writing as well as internal communications
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acquisitions: Identifying, evaluating, and acquiring relevant historical documents, photographs, physical artifacts, and digital records that contribute to the company's narrative.
- Appraisal and Selection: Assessing the historical value and significance of documents and artwork to determine which items should be preserved in the archive.
- Arrangement and Description Organizing and classifying archival materials using established standards, creating detailed metadata to facilitate retrieval and access.
- Preservation: Implementing proper storage and handling procedures to ensure the long-term preservation of physical and digital archives, including conservation and restoration when necessary.
- Digital Archiving: Managing the digitization of historical documents, ensuring proper file formats and metadata for accessibility.
- Access and Reference Services: Responding to research inquiries from internal and external users, providing access to archival materials while adhering to privacy and legal regulations.
- Internal & Public Outreach: Developing educational programs, exhibits, and presentations to showcase the company's history using archival materials. Work with Facilities Design, Corporate Communications and other workgroups to create physical spaces and communicate effectively about the past.
- Policy Development: Establishing guidelines for record retention, document management, and archival practices within the company.
- Collaboration: Working with various departments across the organization to identify critical records and ensure proper transfer to the archives.
