The Pipeline & Renewable Investments organization is positioned within the Corporate Strategy group at Southern Company Gas and provides strategic leadership across the GAS enterprise. The Analyst, Pipeline Investments supports the evaluation, development, and execution of the Company’s interstate, FERC-regulated pipeline investment portfolio—helping ensure alignment with business priorities, system needs, and regulatory frameworks.
This role partners with cross-functional subject matter experts (e.g., System Planning, Gas Operations, Engineering, Construction, Finance, Regulatory, Legal, etc.) to advance pipeline investment opportunities from early screening through internal and external approvals and implementation readiness. The analyst assists with maintaining project governance, risk management, portfolio reporting, and coordination of technical, commercial, and regulatory workstreams. The analyst may support renewable natural gas (RNG) investment efforts and special projects from time to time.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the development, evaluation, and execution of pipeline investment initiatives, coordinating inputs across technical, commercial, regulatory, and financial stakeholders
- Support contract analysis and management activities, including review of key transaction documents and complex commercial agreements in partnership with Legal, Regulatory, and Commercial teams
- Research and communicate market, regulatory, and infrastructure development trends to inform pipeline investment strategies
- Develop clear, executive-level summaries, and presentations for management and key stakeholders, synthesizing technical, commercial, regulatory, and financial inputs
- Support portfolio management, reporting, and performance tracking for pipeline investments (e.g., schedules, budgets/capital spend, milestones, risks, and benefits realization), including monthly and ad-hoc reporting
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to screen, prioritize, and evaluate interstate pipeline capital projects, including operational impacts, constructability considerations, and execution readiness
- Communicate effectively across the enterprise on pipeline investment priorities and execution status, tailoring messaging for stakeholders and senior leadership

- Understanding of program cost accounting, capital investment analysis, and economic evaluation concepts
- Experience supporting contract analysis and administration activities for complex commercial agreements is a plus

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, accounting, or related field; advanced degree is a plus
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: investment analysis, corporate finance, capital budgeting, project/portfolio reporting, transaction support, strategic planning, or project management
- Understanding of interstate, FERC-regulated pipeline investments and key drivers (e.g., tariffs, contracts, throughput, cost estimating, schedule considerations, and risk factors)
- Experience with contract analysis, commercial agreement support, and/or coordination of diligence workstreams (technical, commercial, regulatory, and financial) is a plus
- High attention to detail with a commitment to quality, accuracy, timeliness, and continuous improvement; able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Strong expertise in Microsoft applications (especially Excel and PowerPoint) including financial/economic analysis, sensitivity/scenario analysis, and development of clear, executive-level summaries and reports
- Ability to travel in-state and nationally as needed and to visit operating assets and project sites (e.g., pipeline facilities, compressor stations), which may be outside in rough or uneven terrain
