Job Summary:
The purpose of this position is to oversee the safe and effective execution the Construction Operations Cross Bore program at Nicor. The Construction Operations Cross Bore program greatly reduces the risk of sewer lines being impinged by gas lines during trenchless technology installation and ensures that if an impingement (“cross bore”) is discovered it is quickly and effectively repaired. The program uses sewer inspection contractors to inspect sewers after a gas line is installed. The analyst manages sewer inspection contractors through the inspection lifecycle.
Functional Expertise:
- Serve as the primary lead for the Construction Cross Bore Prevention process at Nicor utilizing the Plan, Do, Check, Act methodology to ensure the work is performed to company standards.
- Serve as a liaison between Sewer Inspection Contractors, Construction Operations, and other Nicor departments in the area of Cross Bore prevention. Working with all groups to mitigate cross bore risks associated with Construction Operation by utilizing and improving standards, process and procedures, and technology
- Ensure that reported /discovered potential Construction related Cross Bores are investigated and properly addressed according to company standards. This includes making sure that the GIS Cross Bore Application is updated with accurate information in a timely manner.
Business Acumen:
- Manage sewer inspection activities utilizing project management best practices (cost, schedule, quality).
- Analyze data from business systems to identify trends within the business that need to be corrected or reinforced.
- Participate in probable cause analysis on failed business process, quality non-conformance, or cross bore incidents.
Engagement:
- Leads and provides support to the Construction Risk Management team.
- Consults with, provides feedback to, and makes recommendations to program manager
- Participates in project teams that pursue continuous improvement initiatives, streamline processes, and recommend system enhancements to improve quality, safety, and/or efficiency
- Assist the program manager in collaborating with various departments at Nicor to drive cross bore prevention related process and system improvement initiatives
- Assist the program manager in encouraging contractors and internal construction team to improve their risk management strategies in the areas of quality, compliance and safety as it relates to cross bore prevention.
Driving Results:
- Oversees the day-to-day execution of the Construction Operations Cross Bore Program at Nicor including but not limited to:
- ensuring reported/discovered potential Cross Bores are investigated and addressed to company standards
- identification and assignment of projects that will require post install sewer inspection
- ensuring contractors drive projects to completion based on cost, schedule and quality standards
- assist with Contractor management (purchase order management, invoicing, access management, etc)
Education, Certifications/Licenses, and Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Construction or Business Management, Engineering,) or related field
- Valid driver’s license
- 3+ years’ experience in sewer inspections, natural gas utility construction or related field
Preferred:
- Experience with GAS systems including PCTS, Click, GIS, etc
- Project Management experience leading teams and/or process improvement initiatives
- Experience in QA/QC of contractor deliverables including sewer inspection videos
Specific Skills & Knowledge:
Required:
- MS Office 365 (Excel, Word, Power Point, SharePoint, Teams) – Intermediate proficiency
- SmartSheets – Intermediate proficiency
- Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with all levels of the organization
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to lead teams and influence decisions
Preferred:
- Basic knowledge of regulatory and industry impacts to the business

+ Sewer industry standards (e.g. NASSCO)
Military Experience:
- Military experience and training may be evaluated as a potential equivalent for education, experience, skills and knowledge
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Occasional Traveler (5-25% travel): The incumbent may be required to travel on occasion. Travel will include day trips be to local Contractor office locations as well as trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
- This position occasionally requires prolonged standing or walking
