GIS Specialist
Lighting Operations GIS at Georgia Power (Subsidiary of Southern Company)

Candidates can be located either in Atlanta or Birmingham and will be required to be onsite 4 days a week.
Position will be filled at Non-Exempt (technical) 5, 6 or 7, depending on successful candidate's skills & experience.
Job Summary
- Distribution GIS (DistGIS) plays a vital role in Georgia Power’s planned strategic direction and daily operations. The DistGIS database serves as the asset repository for facilities data and drives applications such as TCMS (Trouble Call Management System), Designer, and DistView, which are critical to Distribution Operations.
- This position is responsible for the input, processing, and maintenance of Lighting and Smart Services data in accordance with GIS work procedures and consistent with Southern Company GIS Data strategy.
- Additionally, the successful candidate will also be responsible for conducting spatial analysis utilizing ESRI-based GIS software and to produce specialized map products.
NOTE: Position requires that candidate qualify on the EEI TECH test.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Associates Degree or Certificate in GIS strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in GIS or Geography is highly preferred
Experience
- Proficient with ESRI suite of GIS tools
- Proficient cartographic skills
- Knowledge and experience working with enterprise GIS database
- Knowledge and experience working with ArcFM, Designer and Express Sketch
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Exceptional organizational and project/workload management skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of basic electric distribution design and construction
- Strong computer skills in standard software packages (Microsoft Office products, etc.) is required
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Analytical approach to problem-solving
- Able to maintain focus on assigned task
- Familiar with data manipulation techniques
- Ability to perform spatial analysis
- Ability to create, query, and update databases (SQL, Oracle, MS Access)
- Experience with lighting types, fixtures, and controls

Job Responsibilities
- Post updates to the DistGIS database
- Create Construction Prints in support of Lighting Design Analysts
- Create specialized map products
- Maintain high standards for data quality within all applications, including DistGIS
- Reconcile database conflicts and take appropriate action to improve database performance
- Perform analysis using GIS tools
- Database development skills are preferred
