Instructional Design Manager
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Instructional Design Manager to lead the design and development of innovative, effective learning experiences for our organization. This role is responsible for managing a team of instructional design leaders, overseeing the design process, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality learning solutions that support business goals and enhance employee performance.
Work Location, Schedule & Travel:
- This position will be based in either Atlanta, GA or Birmingham, AL. No relocation assistance will be available.
- The team currently has a hybrid work schedule requiring the individual to be in the office four days a week. Flexibility is incorporated, but the job could require more than four days in the office if necessary.
- This position will require approximately 25-35% travel (daytrip & overnight).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to a team of instructional design leaders who oversee the design and development of training curricula, including online courses, workshops, simulations, and other educational resources. Conduct performance reviews and encourage professional development.
- Set the strategic direction for instructional design within Southern Company, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives. Continuously review and assess the structure and staffing of the instructional design team to meet the evolving needs of the company.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, stakeholders, and other departments to identify training needs and develop appropriate learning solutions.
- Implement instructional design models and best practices to ensure consistency, effectiveness, and scalability.
- Evaluate and improve instructional strategies based on learner feedback, assessments, and performance metrics.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and adult learning theories to continuously enhance instructional design approaches.
- Ensure accessibility and inclusivity in all training programs.
- Oversee the consistent use of the Southern Company's controlled library to maintain standardization and quality across instructional materials.
- Work closely with other leaders in training support to help shape the direction of the department. Participate in strategic planning sessions and contribute to the development of departmental goals and initiatives.
- Define key performance metrics for instructional design and regularly review them to ensure alignment with goals. Inform the leadership team about the progress of instructional design based on these metrics tracked in Monday.com.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in instructional design, with a minimum of 2 years in a formal leadership or management role.
- Knowledgeable of instructional design tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia) and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles, ADDIE, SAM, or similar design models.
- Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with performance-based learning design.
- Familiarity with data analytics for learning and development.
- Certification in instructional design or project management (e.g., CPLP, PMP).
